Have you ever wondered why some people succeed and others fail at the very same thing? Why does one Olympic hopeful make it and another does not? Why does one person get the job while the other, equally qualified candidate must keep looking? Why does one person achieve their dream of becoming a millionaire while their neighbor, who has the same capabilities, continues to struggle? The answer is in my secret for success, which I am going to share with you now!
The ones who make it don’t give themselves a plan B. Plan A is the goal, and it’s all there is. There is no other option. To be successful means being laser focused on the goal, and beating a path a fast as you can to the finish line.
Sometimes you have to change HOW you reach the goal, but the goal itself never changes. To illustrate this, I have a story to share with you.
Back in May of 2012 I found myself at the airport ready to board a plane to Pennsylvania. I was scheduled to have hernia surgery the following morning. But, as I boarded the plane I didn’t feel well, and moments after I took my seat I needed to get off the plane. I later discovered the source of my distress was a hormonal panic attack – something I had never experienced before. Great timing!
I waited at the airport for the next plane, but I was unable to board that plane either. When that plane left, I went home.
What was I going to do? I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow!
A friend of mine suggested I not go to Pennsylvania for the surgery. There was another kind of surgery that I could have close to home, but that surgery wasn’t optimal for the long term. That surgery would have been a plan B, but I would not allow myself that option. Plan A was the only plan for me. I was getting the surgery I wanted – the one that would be most beneficial. I just needed to get to Pennsylvania.
I rescheduled the surgery for the following week and rented a car. It took five days for me to get to Pennsylvania, and the day after I arrived I got my surgery. That’s the power of not having a plan B!
The surgery in Pennsylvania was always my goal, and I refused to change it. Many people give up when reaching a goal becomes difficult or seems out of reach. They come up with an easier goal or they give up entirely. But, if you really want to succeed, you can never give up.
Sometimes you need to change what you’re doing to reach your goal, but the goal itself shouldn’t change. That’s your plan A. If you really want to reach that goal, don’t give yourself a plan B. Stay laser focused, give yourself tunnel vision for reaching that goal and you’ll get there!
That is the secret to my success, and it will work for you too!
To your riches!
