So Many Writers Have Bought Into This Lie. Have You?

I’ve noticed a trend and it really makes me mad!  Maybe you’ve noticed it too.  Maybe you’ve even bought into the lie yourself.  What is it?  That you shouldn’t write for the money.  What a bunch of garbage!

Now, before you get your dander up and start writing me hate mail, let me explain something.    I am in NO WAY implying that you shouldn’t work on your craft or create quality booklets, books and other products.  I FIRMLY believe that your work should be the best you can make it (without obsessing over every last detail so you can get it out the door!).  But, I also believe in getting paid for the work you do – getting paid as much as you can, and as often as you can, for as long as you can.

If you disagree with me that’s ok.  You’re entitled to write as a hobby.  Yes, a hobby, because if you’re not interested in making money from your writing then that’s what you have – a hobby.

Most people would love to get paid for doing something they love or have a passion for.  They just don’t know how to go about it or they’re afraid to quit their day job because they worry they’ll fail.  Most people will play it safe and stay right where they are.  But, you do have a choice.  If you choose to write for free, so be it.  But, if you want more, if you would love to be able to earn a living from your writing, you can do it.  AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

Contrary to popular belief, money is not dirty or taboo or evil.  Money is a resource and a tool.  What can you do without money?  Who can you help?  You can’t even help yourself or your family without it.  But, the more of it you have, the more you can do for yourself, your family and others both inside and outside of your direct circle of influence.  And, the more you can grow your business so you can ….MAKE MORE MONEY!

And, contrary to popular belief rich people are not shady, underhanded or snobs.  They’re smart!  People like Donald Trump and Oprah have figured out that having a lot of money is a good thing.  That’s why they keep making more of it.   It does mean having a lot of responsiblity, but I think most people would love to have that kind of responsibility – especially if they could get it from doing something they really enjoy.

So, if you want to write as a hobby and do some other menial, daily grind kind of work to earn a pittance so you can live in a hovel and crank out your “art,” struggling to get by – hey, go right ahead.  But, remember – it’s your choice to do so.

On the other hand, if you would like to earn a living (or better!) doing what you love, if you’re not afraid to stand up and tell yourself that you DESERVE TO BE PAID for your craft (doctors, artists, singers, lawyers and many others could argue they have a craft, and they have no problem getting paid for what they do!), then you can have what so many people dream of but never achieve.  You can do what you love AND get paid for it!

A great place to start is with my new, free ecourse, “12 Ways A Booklet Can Turn Your Writing Into Cash.”  This brief ecourse will give you an overview of the money-making opportunities waiting for you should you decide that you would like to make money from your writing and create a business (or an empire!) from it.  Go and get it here.

To your riches (NOT your poverty!),
