Wherever you are in your booklet adventure, you’re trying to advance to the next level – whether that’s creating your first booklet, or creating new streams of income. You know what you want, but how are you going to achieve it?
In business nothing happens without some kind of plan. A plan is like a roadmap. Just like a roadmap shows you all the cities, towns and points of interest you’ll go through in order to reach your destination, a plan for your business will show you all of the steps to take to reach your goal.
If you don’t have a plan, it’s like steering blindly in a blizzard. You might know where you want to end up, but you can’t even tell if you’re on the right road. You might be trying to get to Denver and end up in Tin Cup – a ghost town!
Make It Your Own
Some companies hire lawyers to draw up complex and lengthy business plans for them, but yours doesn’t need to be so formal or expensive. You just need to know what you want to accomplish, and then work backward from there to figure out the steps you need to take to reach your goal.
Your plan might resemble a list, or it might look like chart or web with your goal in the center and all of your steps listed around it – as if you had a brainstorming session and just wrote out things around your central goal. There is no right or wrong way to create your plan. The important thing is that it works for you.
Flexibility Is Key
Having a plan written down gives you something to refer to that is concrete. It tells you what to do next. It makes it easy for you to move from one step to the next without missing a beat.
Your plan should be flexible. If something doesn’t work, you can change it. If you get a new idea, you can add it. The plan you create today can and should continue to evolve over time. Nobody’s plan is ever perfect or complete. And, even if you only have a couple of ideas to write down, it’s better than nothing at all. You’ll come up with more as you go along.
January is almost over. If you don’t have a plan for what you want to accomplish by the end of December, NOW is the time to get it done. Writing out a plan will help you think through the steps of what you need to do in order to reach your goals. It will show you what to do next, and where you go from here.
To your riches!
