How To Be An Author Worth Paying Attention To

When you start your booklet adventure, you’re doing more than just writing a booklet or starting a business.  You are creating your reputation with your audience.

Your Cover Creates A First Impression

When you put your first booklet on the market, that booklet will give an impression to anyone who sees it.  They will instantly form an opinion of your booklet just by seeing the cover. In that moment, they will decide whether they want to consider your booklet as something of interest to them, or move on to something else.

This is why having a professional cover is so important.  Your cover creates that all important first impression, but you don’t want it to be the last impression.  You want those people who were interested enough to look at your booklet’s cover to continue to consider it as something they need, and then make a purchase.

A Professional Layout Is Important Too

If your cover is professional and grabs attention, the next thing a prospective buyer will do is open the booklet to see what’s inside. They will want to know the contents of the booklet before they buy.  But, they will also want to see  a professional layout.

If you’re selling to individuals, they may not consciously think about the layout, but they will be able to tell if the layout isn’t professional. It’s one of those things where if it looks good, nobody notices.  But, if it looks bad, everybody notices.

A quantity buyer will be particularly concerned with layout. If a potential quantity prospect sees anything less than a professional job, it will cost you that sale – a sale that you don’t want to lose!

Does Your Booklet Deliver On Its Promises?

When looking over the content of your booklet, your audience will be trying to figure out if your booklet delivers what it promises.  If it does, and they were interested enough to get past the front cover, you’ve probably made a sale.  But, if your booklet doesn’t deliver what it promised, you’ve not only lost the sale but you’ve lost the trust of your potential customers as well.

People only buy from people they know, like and trust.  If you’ve lost their trust, they won’t be willing to buy from you in the future.

It’s your name and your reputation on the line.  When your booklet is top notch and you’ve done your best to create a professional product that delivers what it promises, you won’t have any trouble making sales.  Your audience will come to trust you and see you as an author worth paying attention to.

To your riches!

Quick Tip: Don’t Waste Your Time On People Who Don’t Get It

No matter how hard you try to explain the value of your booklet to people, some of them just won’t get it. They might be someone who could really benefit from your information personally, or they might be a potential quantity buyer whose customers would benefit – thereby benefiting the company as well.

In either of these cases, when you’ve done your best to present your booklet to them and they don’t get it, don’t waste another moment with them. It’s best to let it go and move on to bigger and better prospects.

Trying to convince someone to buy who isn’t genuinely interested is a waste of your precious time – time you could be using to present your booklet to a prospect who is interested.  The interested prospects are the ones who become customers and bring you the riches!

To your riches,

Kim

The Shocking Truth About The Only Thing Holding You Back In Your Booklet Adventure

You might have a number of reasons as to why you aren’t progressing right along in your booklet adventure, but the shocking truth about what’s really holding you back is that the only thing that’s holding you back….is you!

The Number One Reason You Aren’t Moving Forward Is…..

fear.  You don’t know what lies ahead, and that can be scary.  What if you create your booklet and nobody buys it?  What if nobody believes in you?  What if you fail?

On the other side, what if people do believe in you, and they buy your booklet and you succeed?  That can be a frightening thought as well, because now you carry a certain amount of responsibility and accountability.

Success feels great and alleviates the fear, but you won’t find that out until you get there.  Sometimes you just have to take a giant leap forward, move past the fear, and go for it. Once you do you’ll see there was nothing to fear and you’ll wonder why you didn’t take that leap sooner!

A Problem Easily Solved

Another reason you might be reluctant to move forward in your booklet adventure is a lack of  knowledge. Maybe you don’t know how to write and produce a booklet.  Or, maybe you don’t know how to get to the next step in your business.  Maybe you’re not even sure what the next step is.

This problem is easily solved with education. You can educate yourself where you’re lacking knowledge so that you can move forward.  There are many ways to do this – through books, the internet, personal coaching, and this blog to name a few.

It may seem easier to stay where you are than it is to learn and grow in knowledge so you can expand your business, but is that really what you want?  Of course it isn’t.

Be willing to to learn what you need to, and you’ll be able to sail right along to the riches!

Overwhelmed?  Relax!

Some would-be booklet authors seem to feel that they need to build an empire all at once, overnight.  They envision this enormous business filled with products going out to thousands or millions of customers.  Just the thought of this can be overwhelming.  After all, how do you go from nothing to an empire of that magnitude in a flash?

The answer is, you don’t – unless you buy an empire that is already built and then you’d better be prepared to run it properly.

The simple fact is, it takes time to build a large, thriving business and that isn’t for everyone.  You might be happy with a small scale business selling a handful of items to few regular customers.  That’s fine.  That’s the beauty of being in business for yourself. It’s YOUR business and you can build it and run it any way you want to.

Of course, you can build an empire, but it won’t happen overnight.  This, however, is a good thing.  You need time to adapt to the growth of your business as it expands. If it expands too quickly, you won’t be ready to handle it.

So breathe, relax and take it one step at a time. That’s the best way to build an empire!

YOU are in control of whether you move forward or not.  Stop holding yourself back.  Move forward in spite of the fear.  Learn what you need to know.  Take it one step at a time.  Success and riches are there for you.  You just need to decide you want them enough to reach out and grab them!

10 Ways To Be Someone Your Audience Knows, Likes And Trusts

In the beginning of your booklet adventure, you ARE the business.  That means you need to be someone that your audience knows, likes and trusts so they will feel comfortable buying from you.  Here are 10 ways to get your audience to do just that!

1) Be honest in all you do.

2) Do what you say you will do.

3) Follow up with people.

4) Be Quick To Take Action.  Don’t just do what you say you will do, do it fast!  Speed impresses people!

5) Be genuine.  People can recognize a phony, and are looking for the real deal.

6) Be visible and accessible.  Otherwise people will think you’ve got something to hide.

7) Always offer your best in everything, from your writing to your customer service and shipping.

8) Put yourself in the customer’s shoes when there is a problem.  How would you feel?  Do the right thing.

9) LOVE your audience – take care of them, be good to them, appreciate them, care and they will do the same for you!

10) Communicate with your audience regularly.  This fosters a sense of relationship with you.

To your riches,

Kim

Will You Grab This Opportunity Or Let It Pass You By?

One of my favorite movie quotes comes from Gandalf in Lord Of The Rings:  “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”

The time that is given to us is right now.  Now is all you have.  There’s an old saying that goes something like, “Yesterday is past, tomorrow hasn’t come.  Today is all we have.” And really, you don’t even know if you have ALL of today.  The only time you can claim is right now.

Opportunities Are Fleeting – Grab Them Now

Every moment presents opportunities – the opportunity to call and connect with loved ones, the opportunity to speak a kind and encouraging word to someone, the opportunity to say no to that doughnut that seems to be calling your name, or the opportunity to work on your booklet or some aspect of your business.

These opportunities may seem like something you can take advantage at any time you’re ready, but you can never be sure what the next moment will present you with.

Loved ones, sad as it is, can die (and they will at some point), and an opportunity to connect that is put off  until tomorrow could be lost forever.

That doughnut you didn’t say no to is already eaten.  The damage is already done.  That chance won’t come again.

And every moment you put off writing your booklet or doing what needs to be done in your business is another moment that you will have to wait for the riches that would have come as a result of that action – that is assuming you will get another chance to take advantage of the opportunity presented to you in any given moment.

A Great Idea That Died

A few years ago, not long after my first two booklets were completed and on the market, a woman came to me with a great idea for a booklet.  She was excited about getting her information out to those who needed it, and she retained my consulting services to help her.  She had a very sound and salable topic and I knew it would do very well in the market place.

It wasn’t long before this woman began to find excuses for why she could not complete her booklet.  She didn’t have enough money for production.  She had to move.  She was too busy, and on and on.  A year went by and her booklet had not been started.  And then, her time ran out.

This woman was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and a short time later she was gone – her booklet and her legacy still unwritten.  How sad it is that she never wrote that booklet, because there were so many people who would have benefited by it.  When she died, so did her wonderful idea for a booklet – a booklet that only she could have written because of her unique perspective and experience.

Nothing Happens Until You Make It Happen

Many people have come to me and said they wanted to write a booklet.  Nearly all of them had great ideas that were not only salable, but that would be easy to create an entire business around, complete with additional booklets and other products.  I explained this to each of them, and they were all excited about the prospect.  Yet none of them followed through.

To this day, they each continue to complain about their financial circumstances, because when they first had the opportunity to change it they didn’t take it.  They let it pass them by.

Someone once said that if you want to have something different, you need to DO something different.  I believe that begins by taking advantage of the opportunities presented to you WHEN THEY ARE PRESENTED. If you wait, sooner or later those opportunities will disappear.

If you’re excited right now about creating your booklet, the time to do it is NOW! You don’t know what the next moment will bring. Things come up that distract us, things happen that delay us, people try to talk us out of things we want to do because they don’t believe we can do them (because they don’t believe THEY can do them), or we might lose our enthusiasm over time and simply never get going.

You’re here, reading this blog for a reason.  You’ve got an idea.  Chances are it’s a great idea that will sell.  The time to make it happen is right now, and the sooner it’s done the sooner you and your audience can benefit from it.

To your riches!

Quick Tip: Why You Shouldn’t Give Your Information Away For Free

Have you ever had someone come to you for advice, and then not follow the advice you gave to them even though you knew your advice was sound?

In the business world, people tend to value what they pay for more than what they get for free. Your knowledge is worth something, and if you give it away you are actually diminishing its value to those who need it.

This is why you shouldn’t be concerned about charging for your booklets, other products, and any related services you decide to offer, such as public speaking or offering a class.  People believe that if there is a cost associated with a product or service, that product or service is valuable – and it is.

Everyone likes to get something for nothing, but when we get something for free in the business world, it causes us to wonder about how much better the things are that are NOT offered for free.  We might like the freebie we received, but we feel it is somehow inferior to the things we would pay for.

Charge your audience for your information.  Don’t give it away.  People won’t appreciate it if you do.  Your information  is worth something to them and they not only expect to pay for it, they are glad to. It makes them feel like they’ve invested in something (and if your information is good then they have), and it gives your information value.

To your riches!

Kim

PS: Before you can charge for your information, you need a way to deliver it to your audience.  A booklet is a fast, easy way to do that.  Are you ready to create your booklet so you can start reaping the riches from it?  Click here!

Why You Can Be A Successful Booklet Author Even If You’ve Never Been On Oprah And Nobody Has Ever Heard Of You

Are you concerned about starting your booklet adventure because you aren’t well known already, and why would someone buy your booklet when they’ve never even heard of you?

Many new booklet authors have this concern, and while it seems valid on the surface, the truth is anyone can become a successful booklet author.

Why You Don’t Need Oprah In Your Corner To Become A Success

Nobody is born an expert.  We all have to grow and learn and discover for ourselves what interests us and what we are good at. All the experts in the world today started from scratch, and many of them started just a short time ago.  One such example is Dr. Phil.

Dr. Phil is a celebrity and expert today, thanks to his appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the late ’90’s.  When he first appeared on that show, nobody knew who he was. Sure, Oprah saw something in him that made her want to give him a chance, but he still had to prove himself.  He was not an automatic expert in the eyes of the public, and even with Oprah’s approval he still needed the approval of his audience.

You might think Dr. Phil was lucky to have Oprah in his corner – that her endorsement helped him.  He was and it did to some degree, but there have also been plenty of other experts who didn’t have Oprah in their corner and they have succeeded as well.

You don’t need Oprah or anyone else to endorse you in order to make you an expert.  All you need is a solid understanding of the information you have to offer and a belief in your ability to convey that information to your audience.

You Are The One In Charge Of Your Expert Status

Nobody can make you an expert.  Only you can do that.  You become an expert by studying your chosen topic, and by participating in it on a regular basis.  In essence, you keep up to date on it and are constantly refreshing and adding to your knowledge as much as you can.

Anyone can become an expert, but most people either don’t believe they can do it, don’t have the time, or don’t want to make the time.  This is why they are willing to buy your booklet.  They need a solution to their problem, but they don’t want to be an expert in that problem.  They would rather let you be the expert and solve it for them so they can do something else.

Becoming An Expert Is Easier Than You Think

Many would-be experts doubt themselves and their knowledge.  The truth is, you only need to know a little more than your audience in order to become an expert to them. Even if you’re just one step ahead, you’re still ahead.  That’s really all it takes.

Just about everyone knows more about something than someone else does.  This includes you.  All you have to do is decide to be an expert and impart your knowledge to others through your booklet.  Once people discover your booklet, they’ll quickly see you for the expert you are.

Don’t doubt yourself.  Give yourself a chance.  Get your information out there and let your audience discover your expertise.  Once they do, you’ll be an expert in their eyes and that will allow you to make more sales to them in the future.

To your riches!
