Ten Key Decisions That Unlock The Door To Unlimited Profits For Booklet Authors

When you write and self publish a booklet, you don’t just become an author.  You become a business owner.  And owning a booklet business means owning a business with unlimited profit potential.  Why?  Because you are the one who makes all the decisions.  Here are the seven key decisions that you will make as the owner of a booklet business which will determine your financial future.

1)  You decide what to write. You have the opportunity to choose any topic you wish.  Nobody is dictating what you must write.  This gives you the freedom to write about something you are passionate about.  It also gives you the freedom to choose a topic that will be well received in the market place, and therefore very profitable for you.

2)  You decide when to write. You can write when it is convenient for you.  If you’re working a regular job, you don’t have to quit while you’re writing your first booklet and building your business.  If you have small children, you can write while they nap in the afternoon, or in the evening after they have gone to bed.  You write when you want to or when you can.  You are able to write when you are motivated, and when you have the time or the house is quiet.  This allows you to work on building your profit around the everyday hassles of life.

3)  You decide how much to write. Will yours be a shorter booklet of 16 pages or a longer booklet of 24?  Will you write one booklet only, or will you publish a series?  Or perhaps you will write many booklets on many different subjects, or create several different series of booklets.  You are completely in charge of how much to write, and how many booklets you want to create.  The more you create, the more potential profit you will bring in.

4)  You decide when to publish. Is there a special holiday that coincides with your booklet?  You can publish your booklet a month or two in advance of the holiday, when people are thinking about it and therefore more apt to purchase your booklet.  Do you need to publish and get to market fast?  You can decide to publish just as soon as your manuscript is finished.  It’s all up to you – and the soon you publish the sooner you can begin making money.

5)  You decide how to publish. Will you publish hard copies or will your booklet only be available as a download online?  Or maybe you would like to do both.  As the owner of a booklet business, it’s completely up to you.  It’s your decision and you can base it on your marketplace and your budget.

6)  You decide how much to charge. One of the biggest problems with using a traditional publishing house is that they control the amount of profit you can make.  They decide what to charge and how much of the profit will go to you.  But, not when you have your own booklet business!  You are the one in control of the pricing and how much per booklet you will earn.  The more you charge, the more you earn, and the more unlimited your profits become.

7)  You decide who to sell to. Do you want to sell to large companies?  Small businesses?  Individuals?  It’s all up to you.  You have the power to make large quantity sales, or to sell to thousands or even millions of individuals.  Want to do it all?  You can do that too!   Having the freedom to sell to everyone within your marketplace gives you unlimited profit potential.

8)  You decide how your booklets will be sold. Will you sell by mail?  Online?  Through a catalog or website?  By word of mouth?  By request only?  By invitation only?  Through an organization that is linked with the subject of your booklet?  There are many ways to sell booklets, and the more ways you sell the more unlimited your profits will be.

9)  You decide whether to create additional products. Do you want to stay in the booklet business and only sell booklets, or do you want to expand your business into other areas and sell other products?  There is no right answer, there is only the right answer for you.  For some, selling booklets is all they want to do.  There is unlimited profit in that alone because the more you sell the more you make.  For others, they might want to add other products to their booklets, or add other products to their business which stand on their own.  That’s fine too.  The more products you have to sell the more unlimited your profits will be.  Booklets are a product unto themselves, but you can add other products to your business at any time.

10)  You decide which markets you will serve. With a booklet business, you are in control of not only which markets you will serve, but also how many.  If you have a booklet about how to strengthen your relationship with your spouse, you can choose to market only to people who have filed for but are not yet divorced, or to people who have filed for a certificate of marriage, or to newly-weds, or to couples who have been married for at least 10 years, or to gay couples, or to couples with children.  You can start with one market and then branch out, or if your first market is especially profitable, you might decide to stick with that particular niche.  Being able to make your own decisions about which markets you will serve means being able to increase your profits because you don’t have to serve unprofitable markets.  You have the potential for unlimited profit because you can serve as many profitable markets as you choose to.

When you own a booklet business, you determine your own profit.  Are you ready to get started?

To your riches!

How To Easily Create New Products To Build Your Booklet Business

Have you watched a movie in the theatre and thought it was so great that you just knew there would be a sequel to it?  And then, no sequel was ever made, even though the movie was fantastic and did very well?  Do you remember how you felt about that?  You were probably very disappointed.  Here you had been waiting for months, maybe even a year or longer, hoping to experience the story again, and for whatever reason it just never happened.

When Your Audience Asks For More How Will You Answer?

When you create a booklet and people find it helpful, they will want more information from you just like you wanted to see a sequel to that movie.  Your audience will devour your content and then they’ll ask, “What’s next?”

You don’t have to write another booklet, but if you have a waiting audience why wouldn’t you?  If you don’t give your audience what they want – more of your information, you’re leaving money on the table.  You’re also disappointing your readers just like you were disappointed when the film makers failed to make a sequel to that movie you enjoyed so much.

Start With Booklets, Then Expand

There are many ways to satisfy your audience’s desire for more content from you.  A second booklet, and in fact an entire series of booklets is one way to do it.  And since your audience has already proven it will buy your booklets, adding more booklets to your product line is a good and very profitable idea.  But, you can create other products as well.

Just because you have published a booklet, that doesn’t mean you must always only create booklets.  In fact, it’s a good idea to offer your information in a variety of formats for your audience.  Diversify your delivery method and you will prosper.  You might branch out from booklets and offer cd’s and/or dvd’s as well.  Or, you might offer e-booklets as well as printed versions – an option which requires no extra work or cost on your part and is very easy to do.

Build Your Booklet Business With Diversification

Diversifying your delivery method allows you to expand your product line and build your business with ease.  You can offer your booklet content in a variety of ways, create new content not included in your booklets to offer, or both.  For example, you might create a cd from a booklet you wrote, and then decide to create a dvd that is related to that booklet but that doesn’t use the same content.  Each of these is it’s own product and can be sold separately.  But, you can also bundle these products together to offer a special value to your customers.

Diversifying the delivery method of your booklet gives you more products to offer without creating alot of extra work.  It’s an easy way to build your business and your profits.

To your riches!

Why Thinking Big Isn’t Always Best

Most authors think big.  They want to write books.  They want to publish through a large publishing company.  They want to sell thousands of copies and acquire thousands of fans.  Thinking big can be good because it forces you to wonder “what if.”  It creates desires in you that move you forward to achieving your writing goals.

Sometimes It’s Better To Think Small

As good as thinking big can be, sometimes it’s better to think small.  Instead of publishing a book, downsize it to a booklet.  In doing so, you will also downsize the amount of time it takes to complete it and get it to market.

Another reason for thinking small is that sometimes thinking big can be overwhelming.  For example, when you’re thinking about having thousands of raving fans salivating for your next book, you may wonder just how you’re going to acquire such a following.  For some who are just starting out, this seems overwhelming because you’re starting from zero.  Thinking small and imagining acquiring one happy customer at a time makes your sales transactions seem more realistic and more personal.  Now you’re not writing for the masses.  You’re writing for one happy customer.  As you journey forth in your booklet adventure you’ll gain many happy customers, one after another.  But, you have to start somewhere and thinking small helps you to picture the process better without getting overwhelmed or worried because you don’t already have a large following of fans.

Thinking Small Will Save You Money

Authors who self publish books the traditional way (that is, they don’t use a POD publisher) will buy a minimum of 3,000 – 5,000 copies of their book in order to get a good, per copy price so they can make a profit.  This may not sound like alot of books when you are planning to sell to the masses, but when the boxes arrive and are stacked in your garage reality can hit you hard!

When you self publish a booklet, however, you don’t have to buy thousands of copies in order to get a good price and make a profit.  In fact, depending on your particular market, you may not need to buy any printed copies at all.   This means you’ll have money available to you that otherwise would have been tied up in all those excess printed copies.

Booklet production is, itself, less costly than book production due to the booklet’s much smaller size.  Less paper and ink used means less cost to you.

Each of these things are expenses that any author will incur in order to publish their work, but by thinking small you will have smaller expenses.  The smaller your expenses, the larger your profits will be!

When Not To Think Small About Booklets

Thinking small is beneficial for anyone in business, and especially for authors, but when it comes to booklets there is a time when you don’t want to think small, and that is when you are thinking about your income.  You don’t have to think small about your income from booklets because booklets can provide you with just as good an income as books can, and often you will do even better.  Think big about your income, but think small about your expenses!

Thinking small will save you money and keep you from getting overwhelmed.  Knowing when to think small is an important factor in your success as a booklet author.  The next time you’re feeling like your goals are just too big or your project is too costly, remember to think small and your worries will disappear!

To your riches,

A Booklet Can Take You Wherever You Want To Go

Do you aspire to do more than write a booklet?  Do you dream about other endeavors such as writing a full length book or speaking?  Or maybe you dream of creating an entire business around the subject of your booklet, with other products, and other publications to offer as well.

Booklets Are A Wonderful Starting Point That Can Lead To Greater Things

Whatever you dream about, a booklet is a wonderful starting point for making it happen.  If writing and self publishing a full length book is your goal, a booklet will give you an idea as to how your book will be received by your market.  It will open doors for you and create customers for your book before it is written.  It’s a chance to test your market before you spend the time and money required to self publish your book.

If speaking is your dream, a booklet will help to establish you as an expert in your field.  It will also bring in money for you at speaking events.

Should you wish to build a business around the subject of your booklet, selling other publications and products, a booklet can get you started on a shoe string budget.  As your booklet sales grow, you’ll be able to add new products to your business without having to be concerned about a large investment out of your pocket.

Booklets Can Support More Than One Endeavor

Once you have created a booklet, there are many different directions you can take, and you aren’t limited to just one.  You may decide later to create a full length book and speak at special events.  Because of the booklet you created, you’ll have credibility for both.

The people within your market will know who you are from reading your booklet, and they’ll perceive you as an expert.  This will make any endeavor that is related to your booklet’s subject easier for you because you’ll have an audience built up to market to.  Buyers of your booklets will be interested in seminars where you speak, or books you later write, or other products you offer.

Dare to dream big when you write your booklet.  Then, when you’re ready, you’ll find that your booklet helps support your other efforts.  You’re booklet just might help you build a business empire!

To your riches,

Kim

What You Can Learn From Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey and J.K. Rowling

A couple of days ago I wrote about moving forward.  One of the things that keeps people from moving forward is making excuses.  That is going to change for you starting right now!

Super successful people like Oprah Winfrey and Donald Trump don’t make excuses.  They deal with whatever comes up as it arises, learn what they need to know to get through it or cope with it the best way they can, and they keep moving forward.  I know you want to be super successful as an author,  so grab something that’s nailed down to the floor because I’m about to blow all those excuses away!

One of the most common excuses writers make for not starting their booklet (or book) is they don’t feel they are worthy to write it.  Does this sound like you?  Do you find yourself saying, “Who am I to write a book?”  Do you feel like nobody would read your book because you are not already well known and you don’t have anything to write that would interest anyone?  You want to do it, but you just can’t get past this feeling that you don’t have enough credit to do it.  Let’s blow this excuse away right now!

Few writers are well known when they write their first book.  Donald Trump and Oprah Winfrey are exceptions, but for every writer like Donald Trump and Oprah, there are thousands more who were unknown when they started.  And Donald Trump and Oprah were not even writers to begin with.  Donald Trump is first and foremost a real estate developer, while Oprah is a talk show host.  Did they have any business writing a book?  Not really.  But, they did it anyway.

J.K. Rowling is another story.  She was an unknown when she wrote the first Harry Potter book.  I admit I’m not a fan of the series.  I’ve never read a Harry Potter book nor seen any of the movies.  But, I love the J.K Rowling Publishing story.  She had an idea.  She wrote the manuscript.  She peddled it to all the major publishers and got nothing but rejection.  Finally, a smaller publisher was willing to take a chance, and the rest is history.  Today, she is a well known author, but she came from utter obscurity.  Is her story any more important than yours?  Of course not!  You’ve got just as much right as she does to write your manuscript and get your story or your message to the public.  The main difference is that you’ve got a faster way to do it than she did, because you’re going to write a booklet (I assume this since you’re reading this blog).

The truth is, everyone is important.  Everyone has knowledge that someone else can benefit from.  Who am I to write for the medical community?  I’m not a doctor or a nutritionist.  Yet, from my own experience I was able to write three booklets that the medical community finds very helpful.

You’re knowledge and information is valid.  It will be helpful to someone.  Think about it.  People come to you for advice on things you know about.  Those things are the things you need to write in a booklet.  Don’t worry that you don’t know enough or that you have no credibility.  Nobody is born with credibility.  It is something that you build over time.  And as for what you know, there are plenty of people who know less than you do and they will be the ones who will need your booklet.

Now that we’ve got that excuse out of the way, I’ll blow another one away in the next post!

To your riches!

It’s Time To Move Forward! Your Riches Are Waiting For You!

This year is almost over, and as it is quickly coming to a close, I am reflecting over the past year and how well my business did,  and thinking ahead to the new year and the goals I want to accomplish.  Most people won’t be thinking about this until January 1st or 2nd, but it’s difficult to make a plan the same day you intend to implement it.  So, I’m starting early.

How about you?  I’m sure you’ll have many things you would like to accomplish in the new year, like that booklet you’ve been intending to write.  The toughest part about writing a booklet is starting it.  You get the idea and think about it and think about it some more.  But you never seem to find the time to sit down and start it.  The time gets away from you.  Something more important that needs your attention always seems to crop up.

It’s time to move forward.  If you don’t, the next year will be just like this year.  Personally I can’t stand to stay stuck in one place, living the same kind of day over and over again where nothing ever changes.  I have to have new things going on and happening for me every day or I just go stir crazy like a wild animal in a cage!  So, each day I set new things in motion.  I do something every day that will move things forward and keep the momentum going.  Everyday brings me new things because of what I’ve done the day before or the week before or the month before.

You must do the same thing if you’re going to see new and better things happen for you in the new year.  Taking action is the key to making things happen.  Nothing ever comes from wishing for it or talking about it.  You must make the decision to do it, and then follow through.  This applies to anything you wish to accomplish, booklets or otherwise.

So how about it?  Are you ready to move forward?  Your riches are waiting for you!

To your riches!

How To Make Money And Avoid Losses When You’re Just Starting Your Booklet Venture

When I created my second booklet, I printed 1,000 hard copies after being told to do so by an “expert” in the industry.  It turned out to be a very bad piece of advice which cost me alot of money and gave me little in return.  The expert was giving advice based on their own experience, but they failed to take into account my specific market and my marketing abilities at the time.  It was like being hired to do a job, and not knowing what the job is or what it requires.  In a situation like that, there’s no way to win.

When you’re new to something, it’s best to start small.  Create your booklet and test it and your marketing skills before you invest alot of money.  You want to make sure you’ve got a winner.  You want to know how your market will receive it, and which way is the best way to deliver it.  And if you’ve never been involved in sales or marketing, it will take a little time for you to learn what you need to know.  Even if you do have sales or marketing experience, you can’t know how your product will be received by your specific market until you get out there and test your product.

Everyone makes mistakes when they are just starting out.  If you’ve ever seen a small child just learning to walk, you’ve seen how many times they fall before they can finally keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep going.  But, that child doesn’t give up.  They do learn to walk, and it usually happens pretty fast.

The same is true for you when you begin your first booklet venture.  Just like a little child, you will fall a few times.  That’s ok – as long as you don’t get hurt in the process.  By starting small, you’ll avoid getting hurt in the pocket book.  You’ll also avoid alot of frustration because you won’t feel like you’re trying to move a mountain.  And then, before you know it, you’ll be able to keep your feet under you.  You’ll be able to stand your ground and keep going.

Starting small doesn’t mean fewer profits.  It is a way to avoid losses, many of which will be large losses if you start too big.

To your riches!

Are Booklets The Begining Or The End?

As an author myself, I am supportive of writers in any media, any genre.  But, booklets are an option most writers have never considered and probably never heard of.

A booklet is a great way to get started in the publishing arena.  It doesn’t require a huge amount of time or money to create, and you can get it on the market within a month or two.  It’s a great way to test the waters – your writing and marketing skills, and the receptiveness of your market.

Some writers who create a booklet will never go beyond writing booklets.  Booklets are a very lucrative niche, so there is no reason to write a full length book unless it is your heart’s desire to do so.  Once a writer creates a booklet and sees just how easy it is to do, and how fast it is to get that product on the market, they may very well decide they’ve found their calling.  For them, booklets are the end.  These writers have found a very satisfying career as an author – one that will bring them fast riches and many great opportunities.

Other writers may see a booklet as a stepping stone to writing a book.  They may use their booklet to test their market and see whether a full length book would sell.  Or they may want to write a booklet to go with their book, to create an up-sell product.  If the author is using the booklet as a stepping stone to a book, the booklet is the beginning for that author, and the book would be the end, or final result.

Whether you just want to write a booklet or a series of booklets and leave it at that, or whether you want to use a booklet as a way to get your foot in the door in the publishing industry and create a market for your book, one thing is for certain.  No matter which path you choose, a booklet will lead to greater things.  You’ll get opportunities you never expected, and in that case, booklets are always the beginning.

To your riches!

The Two Big Advantages Booklets Have Over Books

Yesterday I attended a business meeting.  The room was filled with people from a variety of businesses, but there was one person who caught my attention.  He was an elderly gentleman with white hair.  When he stood he was a little stooped over, and although he spoke clearly there were awkward pauses between some of his words – as if he had suffered a stroke some years ago.

He was only given a moment to introduce himself to the rest of us, and he took more time than he should have.  He was an author, and he was there to promote his book.  I never caught his name nor the title of his book.  What I did catch was that a little over ten years ago this man retired from a very long, exhausting professional career which had nothing to do with writing.  He was searching for something else to do with his life and was inspired to write a book.

It took this man ten years to complete his book.  TEN YEARS!  And trust me, this is someone who does not have time on his side.  I turned to the gentleman sitting to my right and said, “I could have saved him about nine and three quarters of those years!”

Most authors probably don’t take ten years to write a book.  It’s probably more like two to five years, depending on the subject matter and how much research is involved.  Even so, that is a long time to wait to see a profit from your work.  And you may never see a profit after all is said and done.

Booklets give you two big advantages.  The first is that they take far less time to write and publish than a book does.  And the second is that they give you a way to test your market before writing a full manuscript (should you be so inclined) and therefore saving you possibly thousands of dollars.

The poor gentleman at the meeting yesterday had it backwards.  He wrote the book and now he’s trying to figure out how to promote it.  Had he written a booklet, he would have more money in his pocket for promotions and he could have tested his market to see whether a full length book might be profitable.

I must give this gentleman credit, however, because he did finish his book.  He had a box of printed copies with him.  Ten years is a very long time to work on any project, especially when you have no idea whether you’ll reap any reward for it, and he didn’t quit.  He saw it through to completion.

Don’t write a book.  Please don’t.  Not until you have a solid understanding of your market.  Then, if a book is your heart’s desire, go for it.  In the meantime, write a booklet.  You can have printed copies in your hand in about a month’s time depending on how quickly you write your manuscript.  And then you can test your market with your booklet and see how receptive they are to your subject and your content.  You’ll also be able to test your marketing skills before investing the time and money it takes to self publish and promote a book.

Sometimes, the riches are in time and money saved.

Here’s to your riches!

How To Move Forward And Move Up In Spite Of The Economy

The economy sucks for all of us.  But hey, gas prices are coming down!  Even in the midst of a dreary economy and all the scare tactics of the media, there are bright spots.  Some people are taking advantage of the stock market being down.  Others are buying houses at dirt cheap prices that they’ll later sell and make a killing on.  And a few people are, against all odds, starting businesses.

We have to deal with the present.  That’s just the way it is.  And your situation may be different from mine.  But, we both have a hand of cards we’ve been dealt and now we have to decide what to do with them.  What we decide now is what will determine the cards we are dealt in the future – at least to some degree.  There’s always going to be a wild card out there that can pop up at any time.

Some people get so caught up in the now that they can’t think about the future.  But you must, because if you don’t then things will never change.  And this readily applies to booklets as much as it does to getting into college, buying your first home, or planning for retirement. You have to plan your future, while living for today.

What this means to you as a booklet author is this.  Don’t buy into all the doom and gloom and get so upset over it that you forget your dreams and your goals of becoming a booklet author.  Many people with great ideas will never realize their dreams because they allow all the bad news to stop them.  They think the economy’s bad so now is not the time to work toward their goals.  But, if you don’t work on it now, then when will you?  If you wait, if you put it off, it will just be that much longer before your dreams are realized.

It could be years before the economy is in good shape again.  Do you want to be in the same situation you are today when the economy gets better?  I certainly don’t.  I want to keep progressing and moving forward in my business and my finances regardless of what the economy is doing or what anyone else thinks or does.

The opportunities are still there.  In fact, there’s never been a better time to be a booklet author than right now.  Businesses are scrambling, trying to find ways to stay afloat.  They’re seeking anything that will help bring customers through their doors.  You booklet might be just what they need.  And regardless of what the economy does, people are still looking for love, falling in love, getting married, having babies, getting sick, getting well, gaining weight, losing weight, eating, going to the dentist, getting old and dying.  There are things that people do in any economy, and you can capitalize on those things when you have related and relevant information that can help.

Deal with your present, but don’t stop working toward achieving your dreams.  Your future depends on it, and so do your riches!
