Quick Tip: How To Have More High Points More Often

Success isn’t the little victories.  Rather, it’s staying in the game. Your booklet adventure is made up of many twists and turns.  There are some very high points, and some very low points.  Your goal is to always get to the next high point, and to do that sometimes you’ll have to go through a few of the low points.

Simply put, running any kind of business, whether it’s a fortune 500 company or a solo operation, takes a certain amount of perserverance.  Many people start a business and then, a short time later they fold up.  They either hit a high point and think they’re finished, or they hit a low point and don’t have the stamina they need to make it through.

When you hit a high point – that big deal goes through, or your new product sells out in less than 24 hours, or you got that speaking gig you’ve been trying to get for months – pause for a moment to enjoy it, and then look to your next high point. Likewise, when you hit a low point – you lost that big deal, your new product flopped, or someone else got that speaking gig you wanted – don’t focus on what’s gone wrong.  Focus on how to fix it if you can, and then move on to the next high point.

Don’t spend any more energy than you have to on the low points.  Spend it on getting to the high points.  When you do, you’ll have more high points more often!

Quick Tip: How To Improve And Make More Money In 2011

There is a difference between those in business who don’t do so well, and those who do exceedingly well.  The ones who do exceedingly well are the ones who are actually working.

Many people start a business in name only.  They come up with an idea and a catchy business name, but after that nothing happens. They talk about what they would like to do, but they never get around to doing it.  Or, they’re busy all the time, but the things they spend their time on are not productive and they never seem to get anywhere.

You don’t have to work like a dog to be successful in your booklet adventure.  But, you do need to work in a manner that is productive and that will advance you toward the completion of your goals.  Staying busy is not enough.  Your time should be spent on activities that produce something – preferably money!

As this year is quickly coming to a close, now is a good time to look back over the last 12 months and see what you did to bring you closer to your goals, and where you need to improve.  Getting rid of non-productive busy work will free up your time for more profitable endeavors.

Quick Tip: Authority Commands Respect And More Money

Fact:  Authority figures generally make more money than non-authority figures.  For example, the clerk at the store makes less than the manager, and the manager makes less than the CEO.  The higher the level of authority, the larger the paycheck.

As an author, you have the opportunity to be an authority figure – not in the same way that the manager and CEO are, but because of your knowledge and influence over others through your writing.  And it doesn’t matter whether you’ve written a booklet, or magazine article or full length book.  The fact that you wrote about something and it was published makes you an authority figure.

Of course, writing and publishing your work is only half the battle.  You must know you are an authority figure in your subject, and act like one.  Don’t be sheepish when it comes to answering questions about your subject matter.  Be bold, even if your opinions differ from the norm.  Often it is those who differ from the norm who receive the greatest respect.

If you know you’re an authority in your booklet’s subject, and you portray yourself as one, soon people will be willing to pay higher prices for your products and services.

Quick Tip: How To Make It Easier For Your Customers To Buy From You

A lady I know expressed deep frustration to me the other day because she wanted to place an order with Amazon, but they don’t accept Paypal as a form of payment.  She ended up ordering from another online vendor.

Amazon is a large online retailer, yet their methods of payment are limited.  Being that they are a strictly online retailer, they should accept Paypal.  But they don’t.  As a result they are losing sales.

I once spoke with a potential buyer from a very large company.  She wanted to purchase booklets from me with a credit card, but like Amazon, I was not prepared to accept that method of payment at the time.  I lost that sale, and I never forgot that lesson.

Be willing to accept as many methods of payment as you can – credit cards, checks, paypal, etc.  The more methods of payment you accept, the more likely you are to make the sale.

Quick Tip: Give It Time

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you’ve heard me say more than once that Rome wasn’t built in a day, and that the same goes for your booklet business.  You can’t expect to start your business today and make a million dollars literally by this same time tomorrow.  And trust me, even if that WERE possible, you wouldn’t want to do it.

Why not?  Because as difficult as it is to wait for things to really get rolling, it’s a process that you MUST go through.  If you were able to go straight to the top without going through the process, you would not be ready to handle the workload at the top.

How fast you climb the steps to get to the top is up to you, but you want to make sure that you get there ONE step at a time.  Every step is important, because each one provides a learning experience that will help you when you reach the next level.

No matter where you are in your booklet adventure, enjoy it and learn as much as you can before you move to the next level.  You’ll get to the next step soon enough, and you want to make sure you’re well prepared!

Quick Tip: How To Feel Refreshed, Not Stressed

Can’t find those ideas for booklets you wrote down?  Are you running through your day constantly trying to catch up?  Are you feeling overwhelmed by your business responsibilities and everything going on in your life?  It’s time for a little order!

Order is, in simple terms, having a set place and time for everything. Sometimes things happen outside of our control, but for the most part, we are in control of how we use our time each day.  We can use it productively, or we can use it non-productively.  If we conduct ourselves and our day in an orderly fashion, we will make the best use of our time.

How does this work?  It starts with your to-do list. If you’re not already doing it, make a to-do list for each day, listing items in order of priority so the most important things always get done.  Beyond that, look around you at the long standing chores you have been avoiding. These might be household chores such as a longstanding pile of laundry, or they might be related to business such as cleaning your office or work area.  Choose just one chore each day, and once it’s done resolve to keep that area clean and put the items that were in that area in their proper place in the future.

These are just a couple of examples.  I’m sure you can think of more to share!  Feel free to add your comments below.  Living an orderly life and running an orderly business helps you feel refreshed instead of stressed.

Quick Tip: How Quality Control Keeps Customers Happy

You may have heard the term “quality control,” but have you ever thought about what it means?  In a nutshell, quality control is simply making sure the customer receives what they were supposed to, or what was expected.

You’ve probably eaten at McDonnald’s at least once in your life.  Imagine you ordered a chicken sandwich and it came with mayo, lettuce and tomatoes on it.  You enjoyed it very much, and so you returned to McDonnald’s on another day and you ordered the same sandwich.  But, this time there was no tomato. You would be disappointed because your sandwich was not the same as the last time you had it.

The same is true of your customers when they order your booklets.  Whether you are selling your booklets in large quantities to bulk buyers or one at a time to individuals, or both, your customers have (or will have) a certain level of expectation from you regarding your service and your booklets.

Make sure your standard of quality control is high.  Every booklet you write should contain valuable information for your audience, and each booklet should look like a professionally put together product. Anything less will be the equivalent of the missing tomato or worse!

Quick Tip: How To Strengthen Your Weakest Link

When you first embark upon your booklet adventure, you will probably be doing everything yourself – from the writing to closing the sale to shipping.  This is the way nearly every entrepreneur begins – by wearing ALL the hats.

As time goes on, however, and your riches increase, you should find someone else to take over those jobs you don’t do well.  Hiring someone who is strong in the areas where you are weak will help to strengthen your business. It will also free up more time for you to focus on the things you do well – and probably enjoy more.

Your business is only as strong as your weakest link. Strengthen those links as soon as you can by giving those tasks you don’t do well to someone who is more qualified.  When each area of your business is handled by someone who is best suited for the task, your business will thrive and grow.

Quick Tip: Two Things You Can Do To Overcome A Saturated Market

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be the flavor of the month?  In Hollywood, pretty, new faces with talent often become the flavor of the month.  And then, something happens.  The newness wears off, and suddenly they aren’t as popular as they were when they first arrived in town.

The same thing happens with books and booklets.  When your title first hits the market, people are interested because it’s new.  The sales start coming in and things are good – for a while.  But then, as your market becomes more and more saturated, the sales begin to wane. What can you do?

There are two things you can do.  First, you can find another market that will be interested in your title.  And second, you can write another booklet with more information on your topic to satisfy the hunger of your current market.

Quick Tip: Raking In Big Profits With Holiday Handouts

With the summer behind us, it’s that time of year when merchants are gearing up for the holiday season – making plans to rake in big profits.

You can rake in big profits too, when you offer your booklet to merchants as a holiday handout.  Your booklet might be just the thing that XYZ company was looking for to get customers to buy more – by offering your booklet to customers when they purchase a certain dollar amount.

Or, your booklet could be the answer to their question, “How can we thank our customers for shopping with us this year?”

Or, your booklet could be used as a door buster prize. The first X number of people to come in the door after the store opens, gets the prize – your booklet!

Or, the booklet could be used as a thank you gift by a mail order company, sent with the customer’s purchase.

Now is the time to make those contacts and let merchants know that you’ve got the answer to their question, “How are we going to get people in the door this year?”  And when those merchants buy from you, they’ll be buying by the thousands!
