Have You Settled For The Old Status Quo? It’s Time To Raise The Bar

The year is a little more than half over.  How are you doing?  Are you making good progress toward your goals?  No?  Maybe it’s because you’ve settled for the old status quo.

Why You’re So Easily Distracted From Your Goals

These days it’s easy to get distracted from your goals.  There are so many people and things vying for your attention. You get caught up in all the noise of the TV and internet.  You get sidetracked by something on the news.  You get busy with things you think are important, and sometimes they are, but sometimes they serve as an excuse to procrastinate.

Why do you do it?  Why don’t you just get out there and go like gangbusters and reach your goal? It’s because you’ve settled for your own status quo.

You Can Do Better

There seems to be a status quo for just about everything in life, from growing up to growing old.  There’s a status quo in business too, and if you’re doing well enough, then you’re doing fine.  But, is the status quo really what you want? Of course it isn’t.  It’s just where you’re comfortable.

You need to look beyond the norm if you’re going to reap true riches. Many people will do what’s required to reach a certain level of expectation, but very few will go beyond that.  That’s why most people are broke, living paycheck to paycheck.  They are living up to the status quo, doing what everyone else is doing.

But, there are a handful of people in the world who aren’t willing to accept that as their final destiny.  Those people have greater expectations of themselves.  They have raised the bar in their own lives.  Some of them overcame terrible hardships in order to succeed, but they succeeded because they knew they could do better, and they did.

It’s Time To Raise The Bar

Each of us creates our own status quo in our business and in our life.  It might be based on our vision of what we think we can accomplish, or it might be based on the average performance of similar businesses with similar products.  Either way, that status quo is too low.

The year is more than half over.  It’s time to raise the bar and get serious. Don’t accept the status quo – yours or anyone else’s.  Instead, strive to exceed your goals.  When you get close to a goal, look beyond it and ask yourself, “What’s next?”  Then, create a new goal.  If you do, you’ll go WAY beyond the status quo, and you’ll find that you exceed even your own expectations of yourself.  And, you’ll reap the riches too!

To your riches!

How To Make Sure Your Booklet Adventure Is Successful

Once you’ve decided to embark upon your own booklet adventure, there is only one way you can be successful -  be willing to make changes as necessary.

Living In The Now

We all know people who talk about their dreams and goals, but how many people do you know who actually go out and achieve them?  It’s always easier to wish than it is to do.

Most people will never get beyond the dreaming stage.  It’s fun to dream, but making a dream come true takes dedication. Most people are dedicated to their jobs over their dreams because those jobs currently pay the bills.  You think about the future and dream of how it might be better, but you live in the now.  And now there are bills to pay and groceries and gas to buy.  There is the mortgage payment or rent that is due.  And so, your dreams remain only dreams as you do your best in the moment to keep the lights on and food on the table.  There just isn’t time for anything else.  Or is there?

One Little Change Makes The Difference

After a hard day’s work, most people will come home, eat dinner, and then relax in front of the tv or computer for the rest of the evening.  They feel justified.  After all, you deserve a little down time for yourself after giving most of your energy to someone else for the day. It’s only fair.  You served your boss and employer, and now it’s time for you to do what YOU want to do rather than what someone else wants you to do.

But, what if one little change to your routine could give you the future you desire? Would you be willing to make that change?  Most would say yes, but they wouldn’t actually make the change.  And if they did, it wouldn’t be for long.  What is that change?  Do something else instead of sitting in front of the tv or surfing the net or answering email or looking at facebook all night.  Do something that will help you achieve your dream and change your future.

The Path To Success

You see, it isn’t that you don’t have the time to write that booklet.  It’s that you’re not making the time to do it.  You can dream about it forever, but dreaming about it isn’t going to get your manuscript written.

Someone once said that if you want to have something different, you need to DO something different.  Otherwise you’ll always have the same old thing.

Think of a time when you really wanted to accomplish something.  Your desire to do it drove you to act.  You didn’t let anything stand in your way.  You did what needed to be done in order to accomplish your goal.  Writing a booklet works the same way.

Once you’ve decided that you want to write a booklet, you need to take action. And once you set foot on the path that will become your booklet adventure, you need to continue to take action and make changes as necessary.  You don’t want to continue doing what you’ve always done, or you’ll have what you’ve always had, just like the person who goes to work every day and returns home to watch TV for the rest of the evening.  Their situation won’t change until they do something to make it change.

There’s always room for improvement – improvement in your product(s), your company, your finances, your customer service – and ultimately, your life.  Make the decision to be successful, and then make the changes necessary to achieve that success!

To your riches,

Kim

It’s YOUR Booklet Adventure – Will You Cross The Finish Line And Stop, Or Keep Going?

At some point after you begin your booklet adventure, you will have an end goal in mind – a finish line.  Maybe it will be a certain amount of income coming in.  Maybe it will be a series of booklets that are created and doing well in the marketplace.  Or maybe it will be something beyond writing – such as speaking, with an entire product line to offer your audience.  Whatever your idea is of your finish line, there’s one thing you need to know – reaching that finish line will feel great, but it isn’t the end.

What Money Can Do For You

If income is your goal, it’s attainable with a booklet, but dont’ you think you can always use just a little bit more?  If you’re making $50,000 a year, wouldn’t it be nice to make $75,000?  How about $100,000 or $200,000 or more?

It’s true that money can’t buy happiness.  But, it can buy a romantic vacation for two.  It can pay off the bills and the mortgage.  It can help the kids or grandkids go to college.  It can help alleviate some of the stress for you and your family.

With most businesses, if you want to make more money you have to do alot more work.  But, that’s not the case with booklets. The difference between $100,000 and $200,000 might be as simple as a single phone call.  Or it could mean offering your market just one new product – a product that took you very little effort to create, or maybe no extra effort at all.

When it comes to income, there is never a finish line.  You may be happy and comfortable with $200,000 a year and that’s fine.  But if you don’t come up with a new goal to work toward things become stagnate and you will get bored.  Your new goal doesn’t have to be a monetary one.  It just needs to be something you truly want and are willing to work toward.

Why Even A Single Booklet Is Not A Finish Line

If you create a booklet and it does well, it stands to reason you will want to create a second booklet.  If the second one does well, you might create a third one.  Now you have a series or a family of related booklets to offer your marketplace.  But, why stop there?

Just as there can’t be a finish line for your income, you don’t want a finish line for your booklet either.  You may not want to create several different booklets or products, and if you’re happy with a single booklet to offer and that’s all you ever want to do, great.  But, you’ll still want to continue to offer that booklet to new prospects and you might even find ways to get your customers to buy your booklet repeatedly. Even a single booklet that is doing well cannot be a finish line.  There is always more to strive for!

Of course, if you do want to create additional products and booklets, then you can keep going indefinitely.  Isn’t that wonderful?  You never have to reach a finish line with your booklet or your products.  You can continue to create them as long as you have viable ideas that excite you!

There Is Always More You Can Do

Have you thought about speaking or teaching about your booklet’s subject?  This may be a goal for you, but it is not a finish line.  Just as there is always more money to make and always more booklets and other products to create, there is always more you can do to further your expertise, your business and your career.

Maybe you’ll start out speaking at local clubs or colleges for free.  Wouldn’t it be nice to get paid for that?  Of course it would!  That would be your next goal.  And once you are getting paid, wouldn’t it be nice to get paid more?  Yes!  And then, wouldn’t it be nice to be invited back on a regular basis so you have a regular income from speaking and teaching?  Yes!

You see, when you imagine your goals, whether in terms of income, products or your career, those goals seem like a finish line.  But, they’re really just a turning point in your booklet adventure to something greater. You want to reach your goals, and then go in that new direction to reach the next, even greater goal – whatever that next goal is.

To your riches!

Why Most People Never Achieve Their Dreams And How You Can Avoid Their Fate

How many ideas have you had in the past that you never follow through with?  How many times have you started something and never finished?  How many times have you wished for something to happen, but you failed to take the necessary action to make it so?

The truth is, we’ve all done these things.  We get an idea, and then we talk ourselves out of pursuing it. We start something, and then the newness or excitement wears off and we quit. We make wishes, but we don’t believe we can make them come true so we never act upon them.

Draw The Line – Now!

At some point, you have to draw the line and say enough is enough.  I want what I want, and I’m going to make it happen – starting NOW! I’m not going to give up.  I’m not going to talk myself out of it.  I’m going to do what needs to be done so I can have what I want.

You need to be willing to go all the way.  Do you want to be a booklet author?  Really and truly?  Do you?  If you do, then you need to DO it!  This isn’t some pie in the sky dream that’s out of reach. It’s for real, and you can have it.  You just need to want it – really want it – enough to take the necessary actions to have it.

Conquer That Mountain!

A little over a month ago I took up a new hobby – hiking.  I had been on a couple of hikes many years ago, and I enjoyed them.  But, I hadn’t been for many years.  Then, I met a new friend who really enjoys hiking.  She invited me to go on a hike with her and I took her up on her offer.

The hike was one mile long – up a steep trail with many rocks and tree roots.  I thought I was in shape because I had been walking roughly six miles every day for about the past four months.  But, I quickly learned that hiking this little mountain required more stamina than I realized.

As my friend scampered lightly over the rocks and roots in our path, I huffed and puffed, lagging behind her, my every step feeling ever more weighted as we climbed higher and higher.  At one point, when I was certain we must be near the top, my friend stopped and said, “We’ve reached the half way point!”  I thought to myself, half way?  Only half way?  But, I persisted in spite of my pounding chest and legs that felt like spaghetti – and I made it all the way to the top.

Yesterday I climbed that mountain for the fourth time.  I scampered to the top, beating my old time by five minutes.  I had sweat dripping down my face, but my legs no longer felt like they would go out from under me and the climb was much easier.  I felt like I had conquered that mountain!

My husband, however, who was climbing this mountain for the first time in many years, had some difficulty just as I had my first time.  But, he didn’t give up, and made it to the top about 15 minutes after I did.   Soon, he too will scamper up that mountain with little trouble.

Will You Go All The Way To The Top?

Your booklet journey is like that hike.  You may have some difficulty in the beginning (choosing a topic, finding time to write, figuring out which information to include, etc.), but if you stick with it, it will get easier.  You may have a few rocks and roots in your path that you will need to step over or side step, but if you keep going you will make it all the way to the top.

So how about it?  Are you willing to go all the way?  Most people aren’t.  That’s why most people don’t have the riches they desire and will never achieve their dreams.  And you know what?  Most people’s dreams are not out of reach. They are within the scope of possibility, just like your dream of becoming a booklet author.  All you need to do is make a decision to do it and keep going until you reach the top!

To your riches!

Three Simple Choices That Will Help You Get More Done

As we move further into this new year, one of my goals is to get more things accomplished for my business, as well as  for my life in general.  You probably have the same goal.

I’ve come up with a way to simplify this process.  No matter what task or project is in front of you, there are only three  ways to handle it. All you have to do is choose which one to use.  They are:

1) Don’t Do It. Ask yourself if this is something that really needs to be done, and whether it will bring you any kind of satisfaction, monetarily or otherwise.  Often, you’ll find that the things you think are important really aren’t, and are in fact a big waste of time.

2)  Get Someone Else To Do It. This is my personal favorite!  If it really needs to be done but you either don’t like to do it or your time would be better spent elsewhere, find someone else who excels at it and let them handle it!

3)  Do It Yourself. Sometimes YOU are the only one for the job.  Only you can write your manuscript.  Only you can make decisions regarding your business and your life.  There are some things that you just gotta do yourself, but those are things you wouldn’t want to delegate anyway.

To your riches!

Quick Tip – How To Build Momentum And Achieve Your Goals

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s tip day here on the blog!  Here’s your quick tip for today:

Whatever goals you’re trying to accomplish with your booklet business, you need to give yourself deadlines for each milestone.  Having a deadline helps to create the momentum you need for reaching milestones and hitting the goal.

You can do this no matter where you are in your booklet adventure.  Even if your booklet is only an idea in your head, you can set a deadline for having the research for your manuscript completed, and another deadline for having your manuscript written, and so on.

Set deadlines and work hard to meet them.  When you do, you’ll constantly be moving forward and accomplishing your goals!

To your riches!

Will You Take Advantage Of The Opportunity In Front Of You Today To Move Forward And Live The Life Of Your Dreams?

Every little thing you do in your booklet business is like adding another brick to the wall.  From the moment you put that first word of your manuscript on paper (or type it into your word processor), you’re building something.  You are taking control of your future and shaping it the way you want it to be.

It Begins With A Decision

When you make the decision to create a booklet, you’re making the decision to enter into a process.  It’s ongoing.  It will have twists and turns you never expected.  Good things will happen – some which you will have orchestrated yourself, while others will surprise you.

This process is what I call your booklet adventure.  You may have a final destination in mind when you start, but once you reach that destination you won’t want to stay there. You’ll come up with new ideas, new goals to achieve, and new destinations to reach.  You will make new decisions, and you will continue to reach new levels of success.

Moving Forward

Every day you have the opportunity to do something to propel your adventure forward, no matter where you are in the process. It might be researching your topic for your booklet, or it might be finishing your manuscript.  Maybe it’s returning a phone call from a potential quantity buyer, or finalizing a deal for “x” number of copies sold. Or, it might just be getting to the bank before they close so you can cash that big, fat check!

Your booklet adventure is made up of a series of actions.  These actions are everything you do to move forward in the game.  Every day presents a new opportunity to advance. All you need to do is choose one thing to accomplish each day, and at the end of the month you will have completed 20 actions (if you dont’ do anything on the weekends) to move yourself toward your goals.

What Will You Do Now?

What are you going to do today to move forward in your booklet adventure? Each thing you do adds up.  It puts another brick in the wall and builds your process the way you want it to be.  You’re not building something that’s flimsy or make-shift.  You’re building something strong that will last – something that will help you live the life of your dreams. This is your adventure.  Make the most of it!  Go and do something NOW that will bring you your heart’s desire!

To your riches!

What Will Your Booklet Business Be When It Grows Up?

When you decide to create your first booklet, your focus is very narrow.  You think about the writing, the finished copies and the sales.  You imagine the checks coming in.  And that’s good, but if you can widen your focus even just a little and try to see beyond that first booklet, you just might catch a glimpse of a future that is far richer than you ever could have dreamed.

Where Do You Want To Be 12 Months From Now?

If you’re just beginning your first booklet, you’ve got an advantage.  You have the opportunity to start from scratch and build your business from the ground up to be exactly the way you want it to be.

But, even if you’re working on your 10th booklet, you can still look ahead and make decisions for what you really want to do and where you really want your business to be in the next 12 months or the next three to five years.

Most people don’t give much thought to what they really want.  They go to a mundane, boring job day after day so they can keep food on the table and pay their rent, or mortgage, and their bills.  That is their life and they’ve accepted it and made their peace with it.  But, that doesn’t have to be your existence if you don’t want it to be.

How NOT To Get Caught Up In The Daily Grind

Any business, even a booklet business, can become a mundane existence if you only concentrate on the work in front of you. You must take some time to think about your future and the future of your business.  You must take time to plan and make goals for yourself so that you’re constantly striving to achieve something.

When you have no goals to work toward, you get caught up in the daily grind and it becomes monotonous.  Goals create excitement and passion.  They keep you going.  And it isn’t because of the thrill of achieving them, although it is a good feeling to accomplish something you set out to do.  It’s because they bring rewards with them when they are met.

When you take time to think about your future and make plans and create goals, you are building the kind of business and future that you want.  It isn’t left up to chance.  You are in the drivers seat, and you decide where you want to go.

You must be an active participant in planning your future and the future of your booklet business. You must decide what you want.  When you do, you’ll achieve your goals and have what you desire.  But, if you don’t, you’ll simply go from day to day, dealing with whatever comes up.  It will be a never ending grind because you won’t feel like you’re working toward something.

So, What Will Your Business Be When It Grows Up?

Make some time to plan today.  Don’t wait.  If you do you’re putting your future and your dreams on hold.  Think about your writing and your business.  Maybe you haven’t even thought of writing a booklet as a business, but it is.

Your booklet is your product.  Since you’ll be selling that product for profit, you have a business.  Define its parameters today. How big do you want it to become?  Do you want to create just one booklet and build your business around it?  Or do you want to create many booklets?  Will you only sell booklets or will you create other products too?  Will you work from home, or do you see yourself in an office long term?

And, while you’re at it, think about what you want from your business for yourself.  The whole reason of being in business for yourself in the first place is to achieve your dreams. If you can’t do that, then you might as well be trading hours for dollars in some dismal, gray cubical somewhere.

So, what do you want?  Yes, more money, but how much more?  $10,000 a year?  $50,000?  $200,000?  A million or more?  Don’t be afraid to dream big.  Go for it!  Decide what you want.  Once you do, then ask yourself what kind of business you need to build to achieve that goal.

You truly can have whatever you want.  Just figure out what you want, plan and create the goals you need to get there, and then get started and watch your business grow!

To your riches!

Take The Bull By The Horns And Grab Your Dreams

Have you ever known someone who procrastinates when it comes to making a decision?  Maybe you’ve done this yourself.  Procrastination is the result of fear, either the fear of the unknown or fear of making the wrong decision.  But, if you don’t take the reins and make a decision, ultimately a decision will be made for you – and it probably won’t produce the outcome you desire.

Why Doing Nothing Is A Bad Idea

Many people would rather do nothing than make a decision.  They are afraid of making a wrong choice, afraid of messing things up.  So, they do nothing.  They think everything will work out, and that whatever happens is what is supposed to happen.

If you’re one of these people, you need to take the bull by the horns and grab your dreams because they won’t be handed to you on a silver platter. Making decisions is a vital part of life and your booklet business.  You’re the boss, and if you can’t make decisions then you will never reach your goals or live the lifestyle you desire.  You’ll always be tossed to and fro depending on the circumstances surrounding you.

You Always Have A Way Out

Everyone messes up once in a while.  We all make bad decisions.  Hindsight is 20/20.  But, you can’t let that stop you because we also all make good decisions too.  Life isn’t perfect, and neither is business.  That’s what makes it an adventure.  You never know what’s around the next bend in the road, but you always have choices.

Even when you do make a wrong decision you are never stuck unless you choose to be.  You always have a way out – by making another decision. As long as you learn from your mistakes, you’re making progress.   And, chances are if you have made a bad decision, you’ll follow it with a good one the next time.

You’ve Got The Power – Will You Use It?

The ability to make decisions is a very powerful thing.  It’s what takes you from where you are to where you want to be.  As the owner of a booklet business it is absolutely essential that you exercise your decision making power every day.

Each day you’re faced with more decisions that you realize.  Do you wear this shirt or that one?  Do you have eggs for breakfast or oatmeal?  Will you drink coffee this morning or tea?  These are decisions that you make with very little thought.  You simply choose what appeals to you.

Tougher decisions, however, stand out because they force you to think.  Do you write that booklet and embark on your own booklet adventure, or do you discount the possibility that this business model will work for you?  Do you make that call to that executive, or do you avoid it?   Do you print hard copies, or do you keep your booklet as an e-product only.  These are the kinds of  decisions that must be made by the boss – and that’s you!

Owning a booklet business is a wonderful thing because it gives you the freedom to make decisions.  Making decisions is one of the greatest powers you have as a business owner. Don’t avoid making decisions.  Embrace each opportunity to do so that you have!  Your decisions will take you where you want to go, even if you end up taking a few unexpected detours along the way.  What do you want?  Decide now!

To your riches!

Five Tips To Help You Achieve Your Goals In Your Booklet Business

When it comes to your booklet business, you don’t want to be busy.  You want to be productive.  You want your time to be spent moving you and your business forward.  Here are five tips to help you be more productive so you can achieve your goals.

1)  Establish your business hours and stick to them. This not only helps you be more productive because you know which hours during the day you’ll devote to your business, it also lets your customers know when they can reach you.

2)  Let your friends and family know you’ll be unavailable during business hours. Your friends and family need to know that your business is something you take seriously.  Telling them you won’t be available during your working hours (except in case of emergency) will help them to respect your business and your time.

3)  Make a list of what needs to be done each day. Without a list, you will find yourself doing a little of this and a little of that, but not really accomplishing anything.  Create a list the night before of what you need to do the next day.  Start with the most important thing that you absolutely must get done, and work your way down to the non-essential things.  You’ll find that the most important stuff always gets done, and often the non-essential things will be carried over to the next day.  That’s ok.  Eventually the non-essential things will become more important and they’ll be moved to the top of your list.

4)  Begin your day with your telephone. You should start your day by making any important calls you need to make.  This gets them out of the way.  Also, you’ve got a better chance of reaching people first thing in the morning than you do half way through the day.

5)  End your day with your computer. Save your email and other computer related activities for late in the afternoon or at least after lunch.  Try not to check your email more than once per day.  It’s just too tempting to answer email as it comes in, thus draining your productive working time.

To your riches,

Kim
