Quick Tip: How To Be Rich AND Happy

Imagine, for a moment, that you have done it.  You’ve achieved your dreams of being a rich author.  Your booklet sales have gone through the roof.  You’ve developed other products, and you’re the owner of a growing and thriving publishing company that you can be proud of.  Congratulations!  But, are you happy?

As your business begins to grow and do well, you will be tempted to put more of yourself into the business. You’ll want to spend more time coming up with new ideas, creating new booklets and other products, and reaching new markets.  And while this is a good thing (you can’t rest on your laurels forever or your business will stagnate), it is also good to remember that MONEY IS ONLY ONE ASPECT OF WEALTH.

You should work hard, but you should also balance that work with the other areas of your life that are important to you – your social, spiritual, physical and family life.  If your work becomes your only priority, it doesn’t matter how much you love writing and publishing, burnout isn’t far behind.

Material riches are great, but they don’t last, nor do they satisfy for the long term.  Once you buy that boat, how long will it take before you want a bigger and better one?

There are many riches in your life. Material things are only one of them.  There are your friends, your family, your faith and your health.  Each of these is worthy of equal time in your life.  Make time for these things and your life will be so rich that money will simply be the icing on the cake!

To your riches!

The REAL Riches That Come From Writing Booklets

When you first came to this blog and read the title, “Writing For Riches With Booklets,” What did you think of?  What picture did the word “riches” create in your mind?  Did you think of large checks and piles of cash?  Certainly that is what the title implies.  But, true riches are so much more than just monetary gain.

Why It’s Not Just About A Pile Of Cash

I have often said that the only reason for embarking upon your own booklet adventure is to make money. And this is true – unless you are looking for a hobby.  But, since you’re reading a blog about writing for riches I will assume that is what you want to do – make money.

Once you are making money with your booklets, however, you will see that the money is only part of the riches you will acquire from your efforts.  Money in and of itself really doesn’t mean very much.  The true riches are found in what the money can DO for you.

But What If…..

If you’re working a regular day job and you’re happy with what you’re doing and what you’re earning, you are in a very small minority group.  Most people hate going to work every day, and they barely scrape by on what they earn.  It just doesn’t seem fair to have to work so hard at something you don’t enjoy, only to earn a tiny amount of money that doesn’t begin to cover all the bills and necessities, and leaves you with nothing at the end of the month.

Assuming you are in the majority, going to a job everyday that isn’t fulfilling, feeling like you’re going nowhere, and never having enough money to pay everything you need to, what if you could have something better? What if you could make enough money to live on very comfortably doing something you enjoy?  And what if that gave you the upper hand on your own destiny?  And what if, in the process of your moving forward and going somewhere, you were able to help others along the way?

What Writing Booklets Is Really All About

This is what writing booklets is really all about.  It is first and foremost about making money, but not simply for the sake of making money.  It’s about making money so you can have peace of mind and freedom – the peace of mind of knowing your bills are paid and the necessities are covered and there is plenty left over, and the freedom to spend your time doing what you enjoy.

A couple of days ago I ran into an acquaintance of mine at a local starbucks.  Since it was later in the day she assumed I was just getting off work and heading home.  I laughed and replied, “No.  I’m not heading home from work.  I’m heading home from playing.  I get to play every day!”  She said that I was very lucky, and I could tell she had no idea how I could achieve this non-working status.

How did I achieve it?  It’s simple.  I love what I do.  For me it isn’t work.  I’ve loved to write since I was a child, and writing booklets is a natural way for me to use that gift.  Interestingly, this lady is also a self published writer, not of booklets but of children’s books.  Yet, as much as she puts her heart into her work, she hasn’t figured out what I have - how to reap riches from your writing in both monetary and non-monetary ways and live a life of freedom.

Booklets can do for you what they did for me.  They can bring you riches – not just in the form of money but in the form of peace of mind and freedom.  And those are the best riches of all!

To YOUR riches!

Quick Tip: Hobbies Don’t Produce Riches, Businesses Do

Many entrepreneurs go into business for the wrong reason.  They are focused on living a lifestyle of luxury rather than running a business.  They have been convinced that they can do a minimum amount of work, or even no work at all, and live the life of their dreams.  They believe that being in business for themselves is a way to live without working.  But, that isn’t true.  In order to live the life of your dreams you have to DO something to make it happen. You might enjoy writing, but you still have to make the sale to get the riches.

If you see writing as an enjoyable passtime, that’s fine, but don’t expect the money to come rolling in because it won’t.  You must focus on your booklets as a business and treat it with the respect it deserves. This doesn’t mean you can’t write for pleasure.  You can.  You’ll just be doing it aside from your business, and your business must always take priority.

To your riches!

The Big Secret That The Pros Know And You Don’t (HINT: It’s Not About The Writing)

Why does one book make the best seller list, while another book written just as well in the same genre, doesn’t?  Why does one author become rich and famous while another, who is equally talented, is never able to make enough money to leave their day job?

Good writing and talent are important, but they can only take you so far. The real answer to these questions has nothing to do with your ability to write a good sentence.  The answer can be summed up in one word: presentation.

Presentation – It’s Not What You Think

Presentation is not what you think it is.  It isn’t standing in front of a room full of decision makers and trying to talk them into a deal.  And it isn’t what you wear.

Presentation is everything you are, and everything your product is, and everything your business is.  In short, it’s the total package.

It’s The Little Details That Count

Creating a top notch product, which in this case is your booklet, is only a small fraction of your presentation.  While you want your booklet to be good in both content and appearance, you don’t want to neglect all the other little details of your business.

One of those little details is your delivery method for your booklet.  Another is how you deal with people over the phone.  And then there’s the way you position and promote your booklet.  It’s all a part of your overall presentation.

Macy’s vs. Nordstrom

When it comes right down to it, Macy’s and Nordstrom both sell clothing – many of the same brands.  But, Nordstrom has done a better job with their presentation.  It’s not the clothes they sell or even how they’re displayed.  It’s the piano player and the upscale decor that give you a feeling of luxury when you walk into the store.  It’s the cafe that offers organic and gourmet foods.  It’s the total package that creates an almost indulgent experience.

The kind of presentation you create for your booklet and your business will depend upon your own style and the subject of your booklet. Your presentation might be serious, or it might be more upbeat and fun.  It might be thrifty or somewhat lavish.  But, whatever it is it should be professional, consistent, and authentic to who you are and what you do.

The right presentation is what gives you an edge.  It’s that little bit of magic that makes things happen.  It’s the secret nobody talks about, but all the pros know.  Make yours the best it can be.

To your riches!

Do You Want To Be A Rich Booklet Author Bad Enough To Make It Happen?

It’s easy to say you want to write a booklet.  It’s easy to say you want to be a successful, rich booklet author.  Many people do.  They talk about writing a book or booklet.  They talk about how much they want to be a successful author or get their message out.  But, there’s a difference between talking and doing, and what it really boils down to is – how bad do you want it?

Why Your Success Or Failure Is All In Your Mind

Chances are you or someone you know wants to lose weight.  But, it’s much easier to want to lose it than it is to actually do it.  Maybe you, or that person, thinks about cutting back on calories or carbs and feels a sense of deprivation.  That sense of deprivation might be enough to deter you from taking action to reach your goal.  You don’t want to miss out on delicious food, or social gatherings.  Food is such a huge part of our society, and you might not be willing to cut back.

Or, maybe you believe exercise is too difficult for you.  Just thinking about it might make you ache.  Or you might think that exercise is boring.  You may have tried it before and been excited when you first began, but after a couple of weeks it became monotonous and you didn’t stick with it.

The truth is, if you really wanted to lose the weight, you would.  You wouldn’t let anything stand in your way.  You would gladly cut back on your calories or carbs, and you would exercise even when you didn’t feel like it.  You would be focused on your goal and willing to do whatever necessary, no matter how painful, to reach it, because you would make up your mind to do it.

Don’t Give Up Before You Start

Writing a booklet is like losing weight.  It sounds wonderful in the beginning, but you really have to want it in order to make it happen.  Your booklet won’t write itself, it won’t produce itself, and it won’t sell itself. If you’ve got a passion for getting that message out that is burning inside of you, you’ve got a very good chance at being successful.  But, you can’t give up before you start.

A lot of people talk themselves out of what they really want because they believe that it will be too difficult for them to have it. They have their comfort zone, and they aren’t willing to venture out of it, even if it means they could have something better.

So, Just How Bad Do You Want It ?

If you truly want to create a booklet and become a successful author, then do it.  Make up your mind that you are going to get what you want and you won’t let anything stand in your way. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to write a coherent senctence.  It doesn’t matter if you can’t spell.  It doesn’t matter if you don’t have any kind of credentials.  All that matters is what you want and being willing to stay the course until you have it.

Most people will simply wish forever.  They’ll never have what they really desire because they aren’t willing to do what it takes to make it happen.  They would gladly see their dreams come true if someone handed their dreams to them on a silver platter, but that’s not going to happen.

You can’t sit around waiting for someone else to hand you your dreams.  You are the only one who can make it happen.  But, you have to really want it and you must stay focused. If you don’t, your booklet will simply remain a wish inside your head, and all the people who you might have helped with your booklet will never get the chance to read it.

Ask yourself how bad you want to be a successful, rich booklet author.  If you really want it then get started and never give up.  That’s really all it takes.  If you can do that, I promise you’ll get there!

To your riches,

Kim

The Secret To Having A Prosperous Booklet Business And A Rich Life

One of the pitfalls of being a booklet author who is in charge of everything related to your product and your business is that it can be tempting to do everything yourself.  This is your creation, your product and your business and in order to make it work, you may feel you must have total control.  And the only way to have total control is to do it all yourself.

This mindset can actually stagnate your business and your booklet sales, keeping your from reaching your goals.

Building A Strong Business

Nobody can do it all.  We all have different strengths and weaknesses.  When you play up your strengths, your business wins.  But, if you add all your weaknesses in there too, your business will suffer.

The best thing you can do is to take care of those things you do well, and get someone else to do the things you don’t do well.  This way, every area of your business will be filled by someone who is strongly equipped to handle the job.

For example, you may be a fantastic writer who is able to easily express ideas and concepts, but you may be a terrible grammarian.  The solution to this is simple.  Hire an editor.  This gives your business strength and it makes your product better.

Avoiding Burnout

Another reason why doing it all yourself is a bad idea is that it causes burnout.  You begin your booklet adventure excited about creating something, and then somewhere along the way you become frustrated.

Things seem to be taking longer than you anticipated due to your lack of skill in a certain area, or you just can’t seem to get the design quite right.  So, after struggling for some time, you decide to throw in the towel on your project and it sits until you can regain your perspective.

This scenario is easily avoided when you get the help you need in the areas where you lack the skill or expertise to handle the job properly on your own.

Enjoying Your Business And Your Life

Your goal with your business is to have a vehicle that can help you live the lifestyle you desire – not to be a slave to your business, doing everything that must be done and having no time to enjoy other things.

It isn’t always easy handing your booklet project over to someone else to do their part.  In fact, it can be a nerve wracking process – especially when you want to feel in control and you’re handing it over for the very first time.  But, you must be big enough to admit when you’re not qualified to handle something, either because you lack the skill, the interest, or the time.

Your admission to yourself of your inability to handle every aspect of your business will strengthen your business, improve your booklets, and give you the time you need to work on those things you can do well, as well as giving you time away from your business to enjoy your life.

It’s not always easy giving up control of your business or your booklet project in the areas where you are weak.  But, in the end, it is so worth it!  It’s the secret to having a prosperous business and a rich life.  And a rich life is really the best thing of all.

To your riches!

The One Thing That Will Drive You Forward, Compel You To Promote Your Booklet, And Bring You Riches

How many times have you come up with an idea for a booklet, based on some experience you had, and then not followed through?  Or maybe you did follow through, but you found yourself less enthused about your idea after your booklet was created?  Excitement and enthusiasm are emotions of the moment.  They are not enough to carry you through from the conception of your idea to making money with your booklet.

When Excitement Is Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

It’s easy to get excited about a a booklet idea when you’ve just had some kind of major life experience.  Suddenly, you know something you didn’t know before, or you see the world in a whole new light.  You realize that there are others who have shared the same kind of experience, and you want to help them, or enlighten them, or teach them with your new found information.  But don’t start writing that booklet just yet.

In this kind of situation, the best thing you can do is wait.  Why?  Because you need to make certain that this new found information is really a passion of yours and not something that you’re excited about today, but won’t really care about tomorrow.  Creating a booklet is easy, but once you do you must remain committed to it’s publication – getting it into the hands of those who need it.  This is not a difficult thing to do when you’re fired up about your subject.  But, if it is tiresome and you have no passion for it, you will have wasted time and money creating your booklet in the first place.

When It’s All About The Money

Some booklet authors don’t give much thought at all to their subject.  They are more interested in the money they can make with their booklet.  They create a booklet on a topic that they believe will appeal to the masses and slap their by-line on the cover.  Not until they begin to market their booklet do they realize the mistake they have made.

Suddenly, they are expected to be an expert in a subject they care little or nothing about, and they find it difficult to promote something they are not passionate for.  Their name is now forever attached to the subject they have chosen, and even if they change direction and create a new booklet on a completely different topic, if the first booklet has sold to even a handful of people the author will be branded for all eternity within that market.  They will be branded as an author who sold out and didn’t care about their audience within that niche.  And, they will have wasted their time and money, just as the author who rushed to create a booklet they were excited about in the moment, but lacked passion for in the long haul.  Both types of authors lose.

Getting It Right Means Getting Rich

In order to make money with your booklet you must first be passionate about your subject.  That means that you have to immerse yourself in your subject for a while before you write your manuscript.  If you have several years experience with your subject already and you wish to create your booklet, you should proceed.  You already have the passion you need.  But, if the idea just came to you this morning, you need to give it some time to develop, and give yourself some time to see how you really feel about the idea.  You need to eat, sleep and breathe your idea for at least a month or two, and perhaps longer, to be certain you won’t get bored or tired with it.

Once your booklet is created you’ll have to promote it.  The rich authors are the ones who promote their publications passionately.  They’ve got a message burning inside of them and they have to get it out to the world.  True passion never dies.  It gets more intense with time.  And it is this passion that will drive you forward, compel you to promote your booklet, and bring you riches!

To your riches,

Kim

How To Write And Sell Booklets In A Bad Economy

With the economy being in a slump, you may have noticed that several businesses around you have closed their doors.  There are a variety of reasons for this, the economy being the straw that broke the camels back.  With so many businesses going under, you may wonder if this is the best time to write a booklet.  Will you be able to sell it and get your business off the ground?

The Economy Isn’t What Determines Success Or Failure

The businesses that have failed didn’t fail because of a bad economy.  They failed because of many other factors, such as pricing goods or services too high or too low, poor customer service, poor quality products, etc.  The economy has simply required that consumers make better choices, and that is what they are doing.  In the past, these failed businesses may have been able to get away with making their customers a number, but not now.   Now is the time when customer service counts more than ever.  Now is the time when price matters most to the bottom line.  Now is the time when products and services need to be top notch and provide the most value to the customer.  Many businesses have failed to get this right, and they are gone.

You Can Succeed In Spite Of The Economy

The information you have to offer consumers in your booklet is important.  Now, more than ever, people are looking for information.  If your booklet is a non-fiction work, it stands a very good chance of succeeding.  No matter what the economy does, people will always be looking for jobs, getting sick, moving to a new city or state, having babies, getting married, dying, and going on vacation.  These things and more happen for someone, somewhere every day.

For example, imagine you want to write a booklet about choosing the perfect puppy.  You might think now is a bad time to write that booklet because a puppy is an expense, and people are watching their pennies right now.  But, the fact is there are people who are buying puppies in spite of the economy.  Perhaps they will give the puppy as a gift for a birthday or holiday.  Or they might be buying the puppy to train as a helper for the blind or disabled.  Maybe the puppy will be going to hospitals to visit the sick, or to nursing homes to visit the elderly.  Or, a family may decide to buy a puppy for Christmas instead of buying alot of gifts.  So, yes, people are still buying puppies for a variety of reasons, and if they’re buying puppies, they’re buying other things as well, including booklets and other printed materials.

Give Your Customers Value And They’ll Keep You In Business

People will buy your booklet because it gives them a good value for their money.  This means that the information you provide to them is worth more to them than the money they are paying you for it.   As long as you give your customers a good value, they’ll be happy to buy from you.

But, good value includes more than the quality of information in your booklet.  While that is a large part of it, customer service also has a part in the customers perception of value they receive from you.  Customers expect to receive the products quickly, and to have issues resolved in a timely manner.  But, to provide real value you shouldn’t stop there.  You should add some personalization to your customer service so that your customers don’t feel like a number.  Everyone likes to be treated like a living, breathing human being.  Everyone appreciates being treated respectfully and courteously.  It will add riches to your bottom line and keep you in business if you remember this.

If you’re on the fence about writing a booklet in this economy, get off the fence and do it.  If you have already created your booklet, remember to add value to it by providing the best customer care that you can.  Without your customers, you have no riches.

To your riches!

How To Rake In The Riches From A Single Booklet Topic

Have you thought of a great topic to write a booklet about?  If you have, you’re probably focused on that single topic, imagining a single booklet as the result of your efforts.  But, that single topic can be the beginning of an entire line of booklets, or a series, if you’re willing to think bigger.  One topic can be expanded to many.  And when you expand your topic to include more than one booklet, you will be raking in the riches that many other authors fail to collect.  They write about their topic and they’re on to the next one, leaving untold riches from the first topic unavailable to them.

Perhaps you have heard of the book, “The Maker’s Diet” by Jordan Rubin.  He started out to write a book about how to be healthy.  The book was targeted to the health conscious.  It told about Jordan’s journey from being near death to becoming healthy by eating a particular diet.  Thousands of copies were sold.

While in my local bookstore a couple of days ago, I noticed that Jordan has a new title out: “The Maker’s Diet For Weight Loss.”  He is capitalizing on the success of his first title.  Anyone who bought the first title will immediately recognize the second title, and if they don’t purchase it for themselves, it is likely they’ll buy the book as a gift because they are already familiar with the first book and it’s author.  Jordan is collecting even more riches from his topic, because he has expanded it into a new market niche.

I wonder if Jordan will stop with this title.  If he’s really brilliant, he won’t.  There is so much more to be gleaned from this topic and title.  How about “The Maker’s Diet For Diabetics,” “The Maker’s Diet For Seniors,” “The Maker’s Diet For Teens,” “The Maker’s Diet For Pregnancy,” “The Maker’s Diet For Celiac Disease,” and so on.  There is yet a multitude of possibilities here.

Each new title can be easily spun from the first one.  While in Jordan’s case he does need to come up with a fair amount of new material, the basic concept of his diet would remain the same for each book.  Therefore, he would be able to use some material from his original book in each spin off, saving him some writing time.

When you come up with a topic for a booklet, ask yourself about other possible topics or ideas you can create from the first one.  Chances are, if you think about it, you’ll come up with many more ideas you can write about within the scope of the same topic.  You may not want to expand your booklet into every idea you come up with, but you’ll probably come up with some ideas that would take a minimal amount of time and effort to do once your first title is completed.  You should be able to use some material from your first title to create the next one.  In some cases, you can even use most of the material from your first title, and tweak it to fit the second title where you need to.

You can use this idea for books and articles as well as booklets.  Once you have written something, you should milk it for all it’s worth.  It’s easier than starting from scratch with a completely new topic.  It will save you time and give you another product to put on the market much faster that you could if you started fresh.

One topic can be worth a fortune to you once you learn to look a little deeper and see all of the possibilities of what you can create from it.

To your riches!

The Big Secret To Being A Millionaire And How You Can Do What They Do

Do you believe that you need to be highly educated and super smart to become a rich author?  Many people feel this way, even if they don’t dream of becoming an author.  They don’t feel they can ever attain real wealth or get ahead in life because they aren’t smart enough or educated enough, or they don’t know the right people  – and the list goes on.

The majority of very wealthy people in the world today are not any smarter than you are.  Some have good educations, but a good education doesn’t insure wealth.  There are plenty of college graduates, many from top colleges, who are struggling to make ends meet.  This is because college doesn’t teach you real world experience.  They have textbooks.  Each student will have a different experience once they get out into the world and try to use what they learned in those textbooks.  The wealth of the college grad is not dependent upon the education he or she received in college.  Rather, it is dependent upon their ability to adapt to situations as needed, and their ability to find the help they need after college when they need it.

You don’t need college to become a rich author.  You just need to know where to find the information you need when you need it, and you need to be able to adapt to whatever situation arises as you go along. Even if you do have a college degree you will still need these skills to become wealthy.

Most millionaires are not millionaires because they’re smart.  They are not full of resources.  But, they are resourceful.  They know where to find what they need when they need it.  That’s the big secret to being a millionaire and you can do the very same thing.

Are you questioning your ability to write a booklet on a particular topic because you don’t think you’ve got what it takes to do it?  If it’s a topic you really want to write about, you can do it.  You just need to find the right resources to help you.

Nothing worthwhile in life is ever accomplished alone.  From the time we’re born we have help.  But, often when we grow up, we forget to use the help that is available to us.  The difference between the ultra rich and successful and those who wish they were, is that the rich and successful know how to get the help they need.

In the end, thinking you’re not smart enough to get ahead is really just an excuse.  You just need to know where to find the help you need to succeed.  If your goal is to be a rich author, you’re in the right place, because my goal is to be a resource for you!

To your riches!
