Why A Booklet Deserves Your Careful Consideration

If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you already know that a booklet won’t take much or your time or money -  Certainly not as much as a full length book.  But, did you know that a booklet is just as great an investment of your time and money, even though you’re spending less?

Why Booklets Are Such A Great Investment

Why is this so?  Because with a booklet you can reap just as great a return if not greater, and you will never run out of things to sell. You can sell your booklet 24/7 in your sleep if you want to, unlike someone who works by the hour, trading hours for dollars.

When you trade hours for dollars, you only have a few hours each day you can sell.  But, you can sell an endless number of booklets, and it doesn’t matter when they are sold or how many hours you have in a day, because once your booklet is finished the work is already done. You only need to do the work once, and you can sell it over and over again.

How To Double Your Money

Of course, this doesn’t mean you have to stop at one booklet.  You can create as many as you would like to.  Imagine you have two booklets on the market.  Now you’ve doubled you money.  And you don’t have anymore work than you did before.  All you had to do was create another booklet.  Another one time event, which doubled your money.

And you can do this with other products too.  The more you create, the bigger your product line will grow and the more your business will flourish.

If this sounds like alot, it isn’t.  You don’t have to do it all at once.  You can do it on your schedule, as time allows, whenever you are ready. You can create one booklet today, and not create another one for five years or longer if you want to.  How fast you expand your product line is completely up to you.

They Have To Come To You

The great thing about booklets is their fast turn around time.  Get an idea today, write the manuscript over the next few days, produce it the following week, and voila!  You’re in business!

When you write a booklet, you’re investing in your future. Your booklet is like a little seed that will grow and blossom into something wonderful for you.  And it is for you and you alone, because you will own all the rights to that booklet.  Nobody else can sell it, unless you give them permission to do so.  As the sole owner of your booklet, anyone who wants it must come to you to get it. They can’t get it any other way.

If you like to write, a booklet deserves your careful consideration.

To your riches,

Kim

The Worst Thing You Can Do In Booklet Publishing

Are you waiting to start your booklet or advance in your booklet business because you have some condition you feel you need to meet before you can move ahead?  Maybe you think you need more money or more experience.  Maybe you think you need more teaching.  Maybe you’re waiting for summer or fall because you won’t be so busy then.  But, waiting is the worst thing you can do!

Why You Can’t Afford To Put It Off

You’re probably familiar with the phrase, “There’s no perfect time to have a baby.”  People always seem to want to wait for just the right conditions to be in place.  They want to have a house, a good paying job, and stability.  And while these are great goals, there’s never any guarantee any of it will stick.  You get a house, but something happens and you have to move.  You get a job, but something happens and you lose it.  There’s no such thing as stability in life. Nothing lasts forever, and putting off having a child might mean never being able to have one.

The same thing is true for your booklet.  If you continually put off writing it, it may never get written.  If you continually put off advancing your business, you might find that you’ve lost any ground you gained in the past.  Can you really afford to do that?

Someday Will Never Come

The best time to start your booklet is now.  Now is the ONLY time you’ve got.  The best time to advance your business is now.  There is no better time than right now, because every moment you wait is a moment lost.

The sooner you get your booklet done, the sooner you can get it to market and start making money from it.  The sooner you advance your business to the next level, the sooner you can reap the benefits of that next level.  Putting it off only hurts you.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wait for that paycheck before you go to print.  Obviously, that’s a short term wait and a prudent one because you will need a little money for printed copies if you’re going that route.  But, many times, people will put something off indefinitely and that’s what you don’t want to do.  They’re waiting for someday, when everything is just right.  But, someday will never come.  Life is constantly changing. One thing gets better, another gets worse.

Things Will Never Be Perfect And That’s Ok

You will never have all your ducks in a row.  You will never have all the perfect conditions you are waiting for at the same time.  Neither will anyone else.  So, you might as well go ahead and start where you are. After all, isn’t that why you wanted to write a booklet in the first place – to make things better for yourself and live the life of your dreams?

Even when your booklet is published and your booklet publishing business is well established and you’ve got plenty of money coming in, things will not be perfect.  There will still be loose ends and problems that will crop up both in your personal life and in your business.  But, you must keep going.  Keep striving for that next goal.  You just need to learn to juggle the bad along with the good, and everything will turn out ok.  It beats the alternative – staying stuck where you are right now forever.

You want to start your booklet and you want your business to grow, and the only way it will happen is if you get out there and do it.  You CAN do it!  You just need to decide to do it.  Make that decision right now!

To your riches!

10 Ideas To Help You Come Out A Winner When You’re Thinking Of Going In A New Direction

What do you do when you have a booklet, or a series of booklets that you’ve been marketing and doing well with, and you want to go in a new direction, creating new booklets for a completely different market?  This can be a tough decision, especially when you’re really passionate about your new idea.  But, it can be done and if it’s handled properly, it can bring in even more riches for you!

Here are some ideas to help you navigate this decision so that you come out a winner!

1) The first thing you must consider is the booklet or booklets you have been doing well with. This is your current income stream and therefore you should continue making this product or products available.  If you don’t, you won’t have the income to bring your new idea to fruition.

2) With your current booklet going like gangbusters, the next thing you should ask yourself is whether your new idea could fit within your current market. This would give you a new product to offer those who already have your other booklets.

3) If your new idea can be marketed to your current audience, that makes your marketing easier.  You already know how to reach this market.

4) Another advantage of being able to sell your new idea to your current market is that since they have bought from you before, it is safe to assume that a majority of them will buy from you again.

5) If your new idea is not marketable to your current audience, for example if your current audience is working mothers and you want to write a booklet for motorcycle enthusiasts, you must consider the amount of time that you have put into your current marketing in order to make and keep it successful. Will marketing to a new audience take away from the successful marketing you’ve been doing already?  And, will you have enough time to devote to marketing your new booklet?

6) Count the cost. Very little marketing is actually free.  Even marketing that might seem to be free will cost you in time.  Can you afford to market to both audiences?

7) If your audiences are vastly different, you probably won’t be able to successfully market your booklets under the same business umbrella.  You may need to create a second business for your new booklets, or you may need to create some kind of division within your current business to accomodate your new passion.

8) Always look for the simplest, most cost and time effective way to do things. If it’s too complicated, find a way to make it easier.  If you can’t it might not be worth doing.  In the case of your new idea, if it’s going to make things in your business much more complicated, it will end up complicating your life.  Make sure that you can add your new idea to your current schedule of things to do without having to make too many sacrifices long term.

9) Consider your new market. Is it larger than your current one?  Are you likely to gain even greater benefits by marketing to the new market than you are to the old one?

10) How will the new market enrich and enlarge your business overall?

When you take these things into consideration, you’ll be well on your way to making the best possible decision as to whether you should pursue your new interest now or wait until a later time, and the best way to go about it.

To your riches!

Marketing Your Booklet – 15 Reasons People Buy

The reasons people buy are as varied as the people themselves.  But, there are some commonalities that hold true for just about all individuals.  Here are 15 reasons people buy.  Consider them carefully as you create and market your booklet!

1)  Want. You can buy a cheap pair of shoes at your local Wal-Mart or Payless Shoe Source.  So, why do you buy the expensive Nikes from Nordstrom?  You need shoes, but you want Nikes.

2) Need. One of the biggest needs we have today is information.  We need information we can assimilate into our minds very quickly.  This is why booklets are such an advantage over books.  Few people have the time or patience to read books anymore.

3)  Status. Why do you want those nikes instead of the cheaper brand?  Because it’s a status symbol.  It tells everyone that you are somebody.  Information can elevate status or the perception of it – yet another plus for your booklet.

4)  Membership Or Sense Of Belonging. Have you ever joined a group and felt like an outsider because you were new and didn’t always know what other group members were talking about?  What if you could get your hands on some information that would let you talk with the others like a real insider, as if you had been a part of the group for years? What if you could read a small booklet that explained some of that inside terminology?

5)  Make Money. If your booklet can help people make money, you’ve got a winner!

6)  Save Money. This is almost as good as making money.  Almost.

7)  Save Time. Why reinvent the wheel?

8)  Achieve A Goal. Better health and weight loss come to mind.

9)  Attract Men or Women. Singles are a large market, and they’ll buy almost any product they think will help them in this endeavor.

10)  Protection of Home, Family or Possessions. This is why people buy fire and burglur alarms.  It might also be why they’ll buy your booklet if it contains related information.

11)  To Escape Something. Back pain?  The 9 – 5 rate race?

12)  Entertainment. People like to be entertained.  Is your booklet funny?  Does it present information in a way that is entertaining?  Does it help people to entertain, or to enjoy something?

13)  Gift. Your booklet might be the perfect gift in and of itself, or it might go along with something else to complete a gift.  There are many holidays on which gifts are given, as well as for other reasons such as birthdays, as a reward for an achievement, or just because the giver wants to be remembered.

14)  Impulse. It was there, the price was right and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

15)  Convenience. It was easier to get than a competing product.

A Booklet Can Take You Wherever You Want To Go

Do you aspire to do more than write a booklet?  Do you dream about other endeavors such as writing a full length book or speaking?  Or maybe you dream of creating an entire business around the subject of your booklet, with other products, and other publications to offer as well.

Booklets Are A Wonderful Starting Point That Can Lead To Greater Things

Whatever you dream about, a booklet is a wonderful starting point for making it happen.  If writing and self publishing a full length book is your goal, a booklet will give you an idea as to how your book will be received by your market.  It will open doors for you and create customers for your book before it is written.  It’s a chance to test your market before you spend the time and money required to self publish your book.

If speaking is your dream, a booklet will help to establish you as an expert in your field.  It will also bring in money for you at speaking events.

Should you wish to build a business around the subject of your booklet, selling other publications and products, a booklet can get you started on a shoe string budget.  As your booklet sales grow, you’ll be able to add new products to your business without having to be concerned about a large investment out of your pocket.

Booklets Can Support More Than One Endeavor

Once you have created a booklet, there are many different directions you can take, and you aren’t limited to just one.  You may decide later to create a full length book and speak at special events.  Because of the booklet you created, you’ll have credibility for both.

The people within your market will know who you are from reading your booklet, and they’ll perceive you as an expert.  This will make any endeavor that is related to your booklet’s subject easier for you because you’ll have an audience built up to market to.  Buyers of your booklets will be interested in seminars where you speak, or books you later write, or other products you offer.

Dare to dream big when you write your booklet.  Then, when you’re ready, you’ll find that your booklet helps support your other efforts.  You’re booklet just might help you build a business empire!

To your riches,

Kim

The Faucet Of Riches: Is Yours Turned On?

There is a critical question you must ask throughout your booklet journey from the moment your topic idea pops into your head.  You must ask this question and keep asking it.  If you don’t, the faucet from which the riches flow will be turned off for you.

The One Critical Question You Must Ask And Why

What is this critical question that determines whether you will reap riches from the writing and creation of your booklet?  It is a simple question, and you must ask it constantly.  At every decision you are faced with, from the very idea for your booklet to it’s design to who will buy and read it, you must ask “Where is the money in this?”

Asking this question keeps you on track.  It keeps you from going in directions that are not profitable or that are less profitable.  When you continually ask where the money is, it forces you to think ahead about the results of your decisions.  If you need money today, you need it because of decisions you made in the past that were not profitable.  Likewise, if you are wealthy, you have made decisions that put you in that position.  Therefore, the decisions you make every day determine whether you are rich or not.  And if you apply this to your booklet writing, the decisions you make right from the beginning determine whether your booklet will bring you money or not.

Money And Profit May Be Two Different Things

You’ll notice this question is phrased, “Where’s the money in this,” not “Where’s the profit in this.”  This is because profit doesn’t always mean money.  To profit by something means to gain by it.  You may gain money, but there are also many other things you can gain by writing booklets that could be considered profit to you.  For example, you might make a full time income from your booklets (or better!), and be able t quit your job.  In this case your gain isn’t just a monetary one.  It is also a gain of time and freedom.

Another form of profit is a feeling of being helpful.  Your booklet may be helpful to someone, and there is a certain amount of profit in helping others.  It just feels good to know someone else has benefited as a result of your efforts.

Why You Must Focus On The Money And Not The Profit

If you want to reap riches from your booklet in the form of money, you must focus on money.  That isn’t to say that you won’t be generous at times or do things that are not money related, but in order to reap the riches from your booklet you must see it as a business.  It makes sense in business to think about cash flow and where it’s going to come from.  If every decision you make regarding your booklet has only to do with helping others, you’ll never be able to help yourself.

Money Is A Good Thing

Without money, you can’t realize your dreams of a better life.  You are the one writing and creating the booklet.  If you want this to be your living, you will need money.  It takes money (alot of money!), to survive in this world.

Also, you are in a better position to give when you have money than when you don’t.  Have you ever wanted to give to a charity or help victims of a natural disaster but not had the money to do it?  You’re not alone.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have the money to give and not even miss it?

This is why you must always ask yourself each time you are faced with a decision regarding your booklet, “Where is the money in this?”  When you come up with the idea for a booklet, ask the question.  When you’re faced with design issues, ask the question.  When you’re thinking about marketing, ask the question.  When you’re determining who your readers will be, ask the question.  Ask where the money is and keep asking.  When you do, you’ll find the answers and the riches will flow to you.  Then, you’ll profit as well.

To your riches,

Kim

How To Make Money The Easy Way

Some things in life are hard….finding a job, living paycheck to paycheck, writing a book.

And some things are easy….eating ice cream, playing at the beach, writing a booklet.

Yes, writing a booklet is easy.  Whether you’re already writing, or you haven’t started yet, you can write a booklet!

If you’ve established yourself as a writer by writing articles, you’ve got material for a booklet.  One article can easily become a booklet, although you may need to expand it just a little depending on the length.  But, articles are not the only thing that you can turn into a booklet.

Do you have a blog?  A blog would make an excellent booklet.  Of course, you’ll have to choose which posts to use because if you’ve had your blog for any length of time, you’ll have more material than you need.  But, more material means more booklets.  A series!

Are you a note taker?  If you’ve attended classes or seminars, or if you’ve prepared a presentation, these can all be the basis for a booklet as long as your passionate about the subject.

Even if you aren’t an established writer or you’ve never written anything like an article or blog post, you can easily write a booklet if you want to.  There’s really nothing to it!  You don’t need any special expertise or any kind of degree, and you don’t need anyone’s permission.  All you need is a subject you’re passionate about and the desire to see your name in print!

I started out writing a book.  That was hard.  Then, I decided to write a booklet instead.  That was easy!  Now I have six of them!  You can too!

To your riches,

Kim

What The Book Publishers Never Tell You And Why You Can Make 10 Times More Money With Booklets

There are many good reasons for writing and publishing a booklet, but the best reason of all is the amount of profit you can make from it.  Unlike traditional publishing where you submit your work to a publishing house, and unlike traditional self publishing where you must find a distributor, when you publish a booklet you are in control of how much money you make per sale.

If you were to submit a manuscript to a publishing house and they accepted it for publication, they may or may not pay you an advance up front.  If they do, that advance may be the only money you ever see for all of your hard work.  And if your book doesn’t sell, you may be responsible to pay that advance back.  If it does sell, often your royalties from sales will be withheld until your advance has been recouped by the publishing house.  And, if there are sales of your book, you will receive a small percentage of the net sales price once the advance has been recouped.  Rarely do publishing houses pay percentages of the gross or actual retail selling price.

To illustrate this, let’s say your book is priced by the publishing house at $20.00, but the net price after expenses is $10.00 per book.  Most publishing houses pay around 6% in royalties, which in this case would net you about .60 cents per book sold.  That means that for every 100 books sold, you would earn $60.00.  By contrast, on that same 100 books that are sold the publishing house will make $940.00, or $9.40 per book once your .60 cent royalty is paid. Oh, and did I mention that you will be responsible for nearly all the marketing of your book in order to make it a success?  So, you give the publishing house your book, they make most of the money, and you do most of the work.  That’s a pretty dismal arrangement, isn’t it?

Now, let’s say you opt to self publish your book and you want to make it available in bookstores.  In order to do this you must go through a distributor, and distributors are very picky about which books they will accept.  They are even more picky when it comes to new authors.  One of their criteria is price.  If your book isn’t priced about the same as competing books in your market, the distributors won’t be interested.  If it’s priced too low they won’t make any money.  If it’s priced too high they don’t believe it will sell, and again they won’t make any money.  This means you are at the mercy of the distributor as to how much you can get for your book.  You have to play the game by their rules or you’re out.

The true freedom in being a published author comes from being able to set your own rules and your own pricing.  And this is what you can do with a booklet.  You won’t have to worry about a publishing house determining your price and paying you a tiny percentage.  And you won’t have to be concerned with meeting the demands of a distributor.  And, since your costs to produce your booklet will be a mere fraction of what it would cost to produce a book, you can make far more money per booklet sold.  You will be able to determine your own price, and nearly all of it will be profit in your pocket.  Instead of making .60 cents per booklet, you can make $4.00, $5.00, $6.00 or even more per booklet sold.  Now, you’re making as much as $600.00 or more per 100 booklets sold rather than only $60.00.  I think that’s much better, don’t you?

You can’t get rich when someone else controls the purse strings.  You need the freedom to be able to price your booklet as high as you can, as much as your market will bear, so that you can make as much money as you can.  You can’t do this through traditional means, but you can when you’re the boss – which is exactly what you’ll be with a booklet!

To your riches!

What To Do When There Is Too Much Written On Your Topic Already

Do you have a desire to write a booklet but you don’t feel it will sell because there is so much written about your topic already?  If this has been the excuse that has kept you from realizing your authorship dreams, hold on to your hat because it will get blown off right along with this excuse by the end of this post!

I have two little words for you.  Diet industry.  Look at how much has been written about dieting, and yet publishers are still cranking out new books on the subject every year.  Why?  Because it’s still profitable, as long as each book deals with a different area of the industry or has a new slant.  For example, there are diet books for children, diet books for the elderly, diet books for diabetics, and even diet books that only contain desserts for people who love sweets!  There are hundreds if not thousands of diet books available on the market today.  A new one is always welcome, as long it has a niche to fit into.

If you think your topic has been written about too much already, niche it down.  Don’t write about great hiking spots in the U.S.  Write about great hiking spots in Colorado.  Or niche it down even further to easy hikes in Colorado.  If you need a little larger niche, you could go with easy hikes in the northwest.

Just like a diet book can never be one size fits all, so it is with your booklet.  No single information can please everyone or include the information everyone needs.  But, you can write a very specific booklet for a very specific niche.  And even if there are a couple of other books or booklets on the same subject in the same niche, they won’t be written with your experience from your point of view.  Your information will be different.  It will give the reader something that the other books or booklets don’t.  It will be a fresh perspective.

Take a look at the other information available on your topic and for your niche.  You’ll probably come up with plenty of information that was left out of the other products, which you can include in yours.

In my next post, I’ll deal with one of the biggest excuses of them all!

To your riches!

When You Don’t Know What To Do, This Will Carry You Through

From the very beginning of your booklet project, when you’re first thinking of what you will write about, you need to have a purpose.  A purpose will carry you through the process of writing, producing, marketing and making sales.  Without a purpose, you’ll end up lost and not knowing what to do.

When I started my first booklet my purpose was to help other moms get some extra cash on a regular basis.  While this was a noble purpose, it did little to expand my pocket book.  I’ve since changed my purpose to one that works much better – having a marketable product that will create lifetime customers.  The ultimate goal for me with my booklets is to make money.  I’m not volunteering my time and skills here.  There are plenty of opportunities for that, but this is how I make my living, and I want it to be a good living!  Of course, it’s not one sided either.  You can’t make sales if nobody wants your product so it needs to be helpful to somebody.

Whether your booklet is already written or whether it is still an idea in your head, you need to figure out your purpose for creating it.  If your purpose is to be home with your kids instead of working a 9 – 5  job, your true purpose is to make money from your booklet.  If your purpose is to have extra income, your true purpose is to make money from your booklet.  In fact, since you’re reading this blog, you probably are not planning to give your booklets away for free.  You want to make money from them.  This is your purpose for creating them.

Keep your purpose in mind throughout the entire process of creating your booklet and getting it to market, and you’ll stay on track.  Everything that comes up along the way must fall in line with your purpose or it isn’t worth doing.  If you lose your focus as to why you’re doing what you’re doing, just ask yourself the question again – “What is my purpose for doing this?”  The answer is to make money.

Throughout your booklet journey you’ll have many choices to make.  The correct choice is always the one that falls within your purpose.

To your riches!

Kim
