Why Your Booklet Is Just A Stepping Stone – Even If You Only Want To Write One

You can’t know where a path will lead until you take that first step.  Booklets are, for many authors, a first step.

So Many Possibilities

Not every booklet author wants to write booklets exclusively.  Some may begin that way, but others see booklets as a means to an end – becoming a published author and having something in print.  And there is nothing wrong with this.

You might view becoming a booklet author as secondary to becoming a public speaker.  Or, it might be a way of testing your audience before you write a full length book.  Or, it could be the start of your own publishing company, which focuses exclusively on booklets.  Or, it may be the beginning of a company that sells a variety of information products.  Or, your booklet could simply be your business in and of itself.

Instant Author

A booklet is a stepping stone to something more. But, what that something more is, is up to you.  Someone once said that you eat an elephant one bite at a time.  A booklet is that one bite.  But, it’s a powerful bite that can change your life.  One day you want to become an author, and the next day you are one.

This is because booklets don’t require the same amount of writing and production time that full length books do.  Neither do they require alot of money – which makes booklet writing accessible to everyone.  You don’t need months or years set aside for writing, and you don’t need a large outlay of cash to get published.

Stepping Stone

Sometimes a writer will focus only on their first booklet.  They just want to become a booklet author – period. That’s all they can think about right now.  But, once they start down the path of their booklet adventure, things begin to emerge that cause them to change their mind.  It might be an opportunity that presents itself, or it might be that they see potential for their work (because of their booklet) where they didnt’ see it before.

At this point, the booklet becomes a stepping stone to something even greater.  But, even if you only want to write one booklet, that one booklet has the power to bring you riches, and that in turn will enhance your life. In this way, too, the booklet has become a stepping stone.  It’s getting you from where you are now (financially speaking), to where you want to be.

Whether you plan to only write one booklet, or you want to write many, don’t look at the booklet as the end.  Writing your booklet will set many good things in motion.  It is just a stepping stone to bigger and better things!

To your riches!

Will You Grab This Opportunity Or Let It Pass You By?

One of my favorite movie quotes comes from Gandalf in Lord Of The Rings:  “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”

The time that is given to us is right now.  Now is all you have.  There’s an old saying that goes something like, “Yesterday is past, tomorrow hasn’t come.  Today is all we have.” And really, you don’t even know if you have ALL of today.  The only time you can claim is right now.

Opportunities Are Fleeting – Grab Them Now

Every moment presents opportunities – the opportunity to call and connect with loved ones, the opportunity to speak a kind and encouraging word to someone, the opportunity to say no to that doughnut that seems to be calling your name, or the opportunity to work on your booklet or some aspect of your business.

These opportunities may seem like something you can take advantage at any time you’re ready, but you can never be sure what the next moment will present you with.

Loved ones, sad as it is, can die (and they will at some point), and an opportunity to connect that is put off  until tomorrow could be lost forever.

That doughnut you didn’t say no to is already eaten.  The damage is already done.  That chance won’t come again.

And every moment you put off writing your booklet or doing what needs to be done in your business is another moment that you will have to wait for the riches that would have come as a result of that action – that is assuming you will get another chance to take advantage of the opportunity presented to you in any given moment.

A Great Idea That Died

A few years ago, not long after my first two booklets were completed and on the market, a woman came to me with a great idea for a booklet.  She was excited about getting her information out to those who needed it, and she retained my consulting services to help her.  She had a very sound and salable topic and I knew it would do very well in the market place.

It wasn’t long before this woman began to find excuses for why she could not complete her booklet.  She didn’t have enough money for production.  She had to move.  She was too busy, and on and on.  A year went by and her booklet had not been started.  And then, her time ran out.

This woman was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and a short time later she was gone – her booklet and her legacy still unwritten.  How sad it is that she never wrote that booklet, because there were so many people who would have benefited by it.  When she died, so did her wonderful idea for a booklet – a booklet that only she could have written because of her unique perspective and experience.

Nothing Happens Until You Make It Happen

Many people have come to me and said they wanted to write a booklet.  Nearly all of them had great ideas that were not only salable, but that would be easy to create an entire business around, complete with additional booklets and other products.  I explained this to each of them, and they were all excited about the prospect.  Yet none of them followed through.

To this day, they each continue to complain about their financial circumstances, because when they first had the opportunity to change it they didn’t take it.  They let it pass them by.

Someone once said that if you want to have something different, you need to DO something different.  I believe that begins by taking advantage of the opportunities presented to you WHEN THEY ARE PRESENTED. If you wait, sooner or later those opportunities will disappear.

If you’re excited right now about creating your booklet, the time to do it is NOW! You don’t know what the next moment will bring. Things come up that distract us, things happen that delay us, people try to talk us out of things we want to do because they don’t believe we can do them (because they don’t believe THEY can do them), or we might lose our enthusiasm over time and simply never get going.

You’re here, reading this blog for a reason.  You’ve got an idea.  Chances are it’s a great idea that will sell.  The time to make it happen is right now, and the sooner it’s done the sooner you and your audience can benefit from it.

To your riches!

Quick Tip: It’s All In How You Look At It

Every day you are presented with two choices in any given situation.  The first is to see the obstacles, and the second is to see opportunities.

There are many talented writers who will never write a booklet because they only see obstacles.  Others see opportunity.  They are the ones who will succeed.

How about you?  No matter where you are in your booklet adventure, there are always opportunities if you’re willing to seek them.  We’re always better at finding the obstacles because they seem to jump out at us, but if you look closely, you’ll see beyond them.

Start training your mind to look for opportunities today and you’ll be amazed at how many of them present themselves to you!

To your riches,

Kim

Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late

Just a short story today to give you some food for thought…..

Last night as I was out doing my laps at the mall, I ran into a friend and discovered that she owns a private gym.  She invited me to join her there whenever I could, as often as I could.  Her timing was perfect as I was planning to join a gym today.  So, I took her up on her offer and called her this evening, ready for a more intense workout.  But, she wasn’t going to be there tonight.  She told me she had been there all day, and it was too bad I hadn’t called earlier.  And so it was another night of exercise at the mall for me.

There’s a lesson in this story which applies to you and your booklets, and it’s simply this – don’t wait until it’s too late. I thought about calling my friend in the morning and doing my workout first, before I got busy with other things, but I kept putting it off until it was too late.

No matter where you are in your booklet business there are opportunities waiting for you to discover them and take advantage of them. Those opportunities won’t last forever. Grab them NOW!  Get them while they’re staring you in the face because if you wait, they’ll be gone.

I’ll get another chance to join my friend at her gym, but you may not get another chance to seal that deal, or say yes to that offer, or get your booklet into Mr. Bigwig’s hands.  Take that opportunity today and you won’t kick yourself later!

To your riches!

What To Do When Opportunity DOESN’T Knock

Did you write your booklet thinking that once it was completed buyers would break down your door to get their hands on it?  Are you now finding that isn’t happening, and you’re frustrated because you don’t know what to do?  Opportunity doesn’t always come knocking.  Sometimes you need to create your own opportunities. But, the good news is, it’s easier than you think!

Train Your Brain To Be On The Lookout

As a booklet author, you should always be on the lookout for sales opportunities. This might take some conscious effort.  You need to train your brain to be aware of all the possibilities around you – and believe me, they are there!

Whatever you’re doing, wherever you go, train your mind to be on the lookout.  Whatever you’re experiencing in the moment – whether you’re at the grocery store, in a business meeting, visiting with a friend, or surfing the internet – ask yourself if there is any opportunity to present your booklet.

When you consciously ask yourself this question over and over again, your mind will become used to looking for sales opportunities and will begin to do it automatically without you having to think about it so much.  One day you’ll find that opportunities seem to present themselves TO YOU!

The Obvious And The Hidden

Sometimes the sales opportunities are obvious.  You go to the grocery store to pick up a loaf of bread, and you happen to see a new product that falls in line with the subject of your booklet.  That is a prime opportunity for a quantity sale, and it’s a fairly easy one to spot.

But, sometimes the opportunities for sales are hidden.  You can still find them, it just means you need to look a little deeper.

For example, you might have a good friend who has a contact who would be a perfect match for your booklet.  Unless you think to talk to your friend about your booklet you would never know that they did, in fact, have a sales opportunity for you.

When you constantly ask yourself if there is an opportunity for a sale in any given situation, you will remember to ask your friend if they know someone who might be interested in your information.  Even if they don’t, they might know someone who knows someone.

Some Secrets Should Never Be Kept

If you aren’t telling others about your booklet, you’re keeping it a secret.  Your booklet should not be kept a secret.  You’ve created something of value that will help others.  Your audience needs your information, and you need their money.  Keeping your booklet a secret won’t accomplish either of these things.

You need to have a big mouth.  Tell everyone about your booklet – from your mother to your best friend to the guy who works behind the counter at the gas station. Leave no stone unturned.  Blab, blab, blab to everyone you meet, everyone you talk to on the phone, and everyone you email.  Tell them you’re an author.  flaunt your credentials a little (but not too much).  Impress them with your professionalism and they’ll be glad to give you names and numbers if they have them.

Stay on the lookout for opportunities.  Dig for them when you need to.  Don’t get discouraged.  The opportunities are there.  You just need to find them!

To your riches!

From Booklet Author To Playwrite – How Writing Booklets Can Lead To Other Opportunities

I’ve often said that you never know where a booklet will take you, and it’s true.  Last week I was talking with a lady of an organization who knows that I am a booklet author.  We were having a friendly chat and I happened to mention that I have a background in acting.  Suddenly, her eyes lit up and she had an idea.  “With your acting background and writing ability, you could write a play for our organization!”  A play?  Sure!  Why not?  It will be fun!

The Advantage Of Owning A Publishing Company

Since I own a publishing company, I will be able to publish the play and offer it to other, similar organizations that would like to use it.  I would be able to sell copies just as I would with my booklets.  I won’t have to bother with royalties, which is just a small pittance of the money made from sales.  I will be able to collect the entire profit from the venture.  And, since each actor portraying a character in the play will need a copy, as well as the director, assistant director and possibly the stage manager as well, I’ll be selling multiple copies for each sale.

The Advantage Of Having An Audience View Or Read Your Work Prior To Publication

Writing the play for this lady will give me a chance to see how it is received before I put it into the market place.  This will give me the opportunity to work out any rough spots before I publish the play.  It is akin to having people read your booklet before you go to press.  Those people can really save your credibility and reputation as an author.

What Happens For Me Can Happen For You

No matter what your background is, and no matter what kind of booklet you want to write, be ready for new opportunities to come your way.  It has happened for me many times, and it will happen for you too.  Keep your eyes and ears open for other opportunities that interest you.  When you write a booklet and start your own booklet business or publishing company, you just never know what lies waiting for you down the road or around the bend.  The opportunities are there.  Go get ‘em!

To your riches!

The Three Kinds Of Booklet Authors – Which One Are You?

Are you someone who gets an idea, and once you implement it the idea grows into something much larger than what you originally anticipated?  If you thrive on this kind of growth, a booklet business might seem like small potatoes to you.  But, your business doesn’t have to stay small if you want to do something on a grander scale.

A booklet is simply a vehicle to help you get from where you are to where you want to be.  There are three kinds of booklet authors – those whose business is all about booklets, those whose business has nothing to do with booklets, and those who are not quite sure what they want their business to focus on.  But, no matter which kind of author you are, a booklet can be instrumental in taking your business to new heights.

How To Grow Your Booklet Business When You Don’t Know What You Want

When you begin your booklet adventure, you might focus on one title, creating it and selling it.  You may not be able to see beyond that first booklet, and you may not want to.

At some point, however, new opportunities will present themselves and you will get to choose which direction you want your business to go.  You’ll be able to grow your business into whatever you want it to be.

At the beginning of your journey, you can’t see every twist and turn in the road.  A booklet may sound like a good idea to you, and you may be open to what lies ahead, but that’s as far as your “idea” goes.

You might not think about growing a million dollar business when you start.  You might just want some extra money on the side, or money might not even be part of the equation for you at all.  Perhaps you simply have a message you want to get out to the world and you like to write, and that’s your starting point.

You don’t have to have everything all figured out from day one.  All you need to do is decide which opportunities you’ll take advantage of when they present themselves, and your business will grow.

When You’ve Got It All Figured Out And It’s Not All About Booklets

Are you someone who knows where your business is going and it’s not focused on booklets?  You don’t have to sell booklets as a product in order for you to benefit from them.

You might use a booklet as a sample of your book, or it might be used as thank you gift to entice people to buy your main product.  Your booklet might be a promotional tool for you if you hand it to your audience for free when they attend your seminar.  Or, your booklet could be an easy way to test your market before you create the full blown product.

Creating a booklet doesn’t mean you must have a business that is focused only on booklets.  Your booklet may be a means to reaching an end that has nothing to do with booklets at all.

When It Is All About Booklets

If your plan is to create a booklet business that only sells booklets, you will still find that you have many opportunities for growth.  You may create a booklet about one subject, and then decide to branch out into other areas of your market by creating other booklets within the same subject area.

For example, your first booklet might be about caring for a newborn, which you market to new mothers.  You might create other, related booklets to sell to the same market, such as how to find the best daycare for a newborn, how to help older siblings adjust to the new baby, or the most common breastfeeding questions answered.  Your booklet business would grow in titles offered to your market.

Eventually, you may even decide to branch out into other, related markets such as parents of toddlers.  There’s no end to the opportunities that you can take advantage of.

Another option is that you might one day decide to venture beyond the booklet and create other products to offer your market, such as books, ebooks, cd’s or dvd’s.  It’s all up to you!

Of course, before you can take advantage of the opportunities that await you, you must first create your booklet.  It’s time!  Do it now!

To your riches,

Kim

PS: Need a little help to get started with your booklet?  Do you have questions that need answers?  I am available, by appointment, to consult with you on your project.  You don’t have to try to navigate through the process alone. I’ve been where you are and I can help you, and probably save you alot of time, trouble and money.

My fee is currently a paltry $149.00 for 30 minutes, and I guarantee that our time together will help you or I’ll refund every penny you’ve paid.  That’s right.  If at the end of our time together you don’t feel I have helped you, just say the word and you’ll receive a 100% full refund of every cent you’ve paid.

Why would I do this?  Because I’ve seen too many shysters out there who will take your money and if you’re not satisfied with the service they provide, that’s just too bad.  They win, you lose.  That’s just not fair, and I won’t do that to you.  I believe in running an honest business and treating my customers and clients fairly – the same way I like to be treated when I do business with someone.

What I will NOT guarantee is how long my price will remain this low.  Once my new product becomes available my consulting fee will go up considerably, so I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity now!  Just contact me by leaving me a comment here on the blog, and I’ll email you to set up an appointment.  It’s that easy and you’ve got nothing to lose, so do it now!

How To Capitalize On Opportunity To Fatten Your Bank Account

Every author who creates a booklet does so for different reasons and from a different place.  No two authors are on the same path.  We all have different subjects we want to write about, and different goals we want to reach as a result of our efforts.  But, the question isn’t really where you want to be, but how far you want to go.

Rich Opportunities

You may begin your booklet adventure with a single goal in mind – to make money.  But, while this is the underlying reason for writing a booklet for most authors, there are many ways in which this goal can be achieved.  The way in which you decide to make money from your booklet will be a personal decision.  And sometimes, events happen along the way that you couldn’t have imagined and couldn’t have planned, which will fatten your bank account.

What are these unimagined and unplanned events?  Generally speaking, they are added opportunities for exposure of you and your booklet to your market.  These opportunities will present themselves in the form of interviews, speaking engagements, and write-ups and reviews in various publications both online and off.  All you have to do is decide to take advantage of them when they present themselves.  Just say yes and walk through that door of opportunity to collect the riches waiting for you on the other side.  Those riches include expert status, reaching a part of your market you otherwise might never have been able to reach, and making sales you otherwise could not have made, as well as still more opportunities that will present themselves as a result of taking advantage of the present opportunity.

A Whole New Career

Your booklet adventure may start out with a simple goal in mind of selling booklets, but it can advance you to an entirely new career.  When public speaking opportunities present themselves, you may find you enjoy it so much that you can no longer consider yourself as just a booklet author.  You may decide to become a public speaker on the subject of your booklets, and use your booklets as a back of the room product for additional income.  This is just one possibility of how you might spin an opportunity to take yourself in a new direction.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with remaining a booklet author first and foremost, and continuing to build your booklet business.  Your business is your business.  You can base it on a single booklet, or you can create many different booklets as well as other products to sell to your market.  You can keep it as small as you wish, such as when you just want a sideline business for extra income, or you can grow it into a large business that brings in a million or more per year.  It’s entirely up to you.

It’s Your Move

The beauty of owning a booklet business is that you can start right where you are.  You don’t need alot of experience or money.  All you need is a subject that you’re passionate about, and a strong desire to get your message out.  You can begin with a single booklet, and from that one booklet you can grow as large a business and income as you desire.  You make the decisions, you call the shots.  You decide what your next move will be.

You may start with one booklet, but the sky is the limit as far as the potential for your business, what you can achieve, and ultimately how much money you bring in.  So, how far do you want to go?  It’s your move!

To your riches!

Are You Ready To Be A Celebrity?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a celebrity? To have fans who look up to you and come to you for answers? When you write a booklet, you can realize this dream.

Writing a booklet tells others that you are in the know. It tells them that you are the go to expert when they have questions about your booklet’s topic. And people hold authors in very high esteem. They regard you as a celebrity, and that status will bring many opportunities to your door that otherwise might not appear.

Since writing my own booklets I’ve had several opportunities land at my feet, some of which could lead into other full time businesses or employment. When you write a booklet, it not only gets your name out there, it tells people that you’re someone who takes action. Most people admire that trait in other people.

One of the companies I’m working with told me back in June that they wanted 600,000 copies of one of my titles, but what really shocked me was that they wanted to leave my name on the cover. They had the option of pulling out all of my information and just putting their company name on the cover. But, they said they like to give credit where it is due. I had to pause for a moment because I didn’t know what having my name on over half a million copies would do. I was certain it would catapult me into a whole new category, and I wasn’t sure I was ready for that.

Then again, maybe I was. It was easy to imagine publishers courting me for a full length book, or the company I was working with, and perhaps others, asking me to do commercial spots on tv. After all, my name would be pretty well known throughout their target niche and I would be viewed as someone that niche could trust.

These things may never happen, and I’m working with this company now on a new deal as the original one didn’t go as planned. It wasn’t that the company didn’t want my booklet. They just weren’t able to use it the way they had originally hoped, which meant finding a new way to use it. So, we’re working on it. But, one thing is for certain. When they do place their order, they’ll be ordering hundreds of thousands of copies and they’ll be leaving my name on the front.

How about you? Wanna be a star? Write a booklet!

To your riches,

Kim

Why I Love Junk Mail!

Today was pretty much the same as any other until I checked my mailbox.  I’m telling you what – some of the greatest opportunities you’ll ever have as a booklet author will come right to you in your mailbox!

I pulled out what appeared to be two pieces of junk mail.  The first was an ad from a store.  I didn’t even bother to look and see which one.  I just threw it into the trash.

The second piece of “junk mail” had alot of pictures on the front of people I recognized – Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracy, and Suze Orman to name a few.  It took me a moment of looking this four page “ad” over before I realized it was an invitation to a business seminar.  Now that’s interesting!

I don’t know if this seminar will be worth the time and gas in and of itself, but they’ve got some top names appearing and the price is next to nothing.  Since I was always taught by my grandmother that you usually get what you pay for, I’m a bit skeptical.  But, one thing I do know is that this is a truly great opportunity for me as both an author and a publisher.

this seminar will be filled with business people and entrepreneurs and it just so happens that yesterday I came up with the idea for my next booklet (this will be #6 folks!) and it is for businesses and entrepreneurs!  The only thing is the booklet isn’t written yet, and I’m still working on title #5.  So, it’s crunch time!  I’ll get title #5 finished up over the weekend and then write like crazy to get #6 done by the middle of next week.  I can have it completed and produced in plenty of time for the seminar.

So, either I’ll go to the seminar and learn some great things and have the chance to schmooze with other business people, give them a booklet, and hopefully gain some new clients – or – I’ll go to the seminar and it won’t be so great but I’ll still get the chance to schmooze and network and gain new clients anyway.  Either way I win!

This really proves a point.  When you’ve got an idea for a booklet GET IT DONE!!!  Don’t sit around waiting and thinking because if you do you’ll miss out on some great opportunities.   I wasn’t going to produce #6 until #5 was finished.  I’ve got some other projects to work on that have to do with title #5, but I will now get them done simultaneously while working on #6.  It’s a fast, crazy pace, but then I’d rather make money fast than slow, and sometimes it does get a little crazy!

I love getting junk mail.  Often, it’s filled with new opportunities!

To your riches,

Kim
