Three Questions You Must Answer BEFORE You Write Your Booklet

So you’ve been thinking about writing something to make some money, and you’ve found your way to this blog.  It all sounds great, you think, but how do you know it will work for you?

It will work for you because someone, somewhere “out there” is trying to find the solution to a problem you solved months ago. Here are three key questions you need to answer before you write your booklet, so you can help them and make money.

1)  What does your intended audience need? If you want to write a booklet about house training a new puppy because you recently were successful at this task, you need to think about not only how you did it, but what was most helpful to you in accomplishing the task.  What information did you need the most when you did it?

2)  Where is your audience? If you don’t know where they are, how can you reach them?  You can write the booklet, but no matter how great it is they can’t buy it if they have never heard of it.

3) How can your information help them? If you don’t know the answer to this, your dead in the water before you start.  You need to know what your booklet will help your audience do.  They need to be able to take some kind of positive action from reading your booklet.

To your riches!

Quick Tip: What Works For Books Can Work For Booklets

Many authors forget to think outside the box.  They mistakenly believe that an idea used for books won’t work for booklets, or vice versa.

The truth is you can take any idea, whether it’s for books, magazines, ebooks, or any other publication, and apply it to booklets. And what’s good for booklets is also good for books.  You may need to tweak the idea a little so that it fits your situation, but there’s no reason why something that works for one can’t work for the other.

This blog is full of ideas for booklets, but those same ideas can easily be applied to books should you ever be inclined to write a full length publication.  And, if you’ve already written a book and are looking for another income stream that won’t take you as long to produce, you’ve come to the right place!  And you can use your book knowledge to help you too!

Don’t look at ideas as being absolute or as only fitting one particular kind of product or situation.  Look at ideas as something that can be tweaked, stretched, and otherwise changed to fit your needs.  Remember, what works for one can work for the other.

Need A Topic To Write About? Here’s A Great Idea Booster

Have you been searching for the perfect topic to write about for your booklet?  Ultimately, you should write about something that you are passionate about.  But, sometimes you will find yourself questioning your passions.  That’s when you need a little help.

A Great Idea Booster

Here’s a little idea booster to help you come up with some great ideas to contemplate.  It’s simply this – watch the headlines.  When you’re online and you go to Yahoo, notice the news headlines.  Or, if you’re offline and standing in line at the grocery store, look at the headlines on the front of the major magazines. By watching the headlines you’ll not only spark some ideas for your own writing, but you’ll also get a good idea of what the public is interested in.

Make It Specific

Of course, you don’t want to write about just any topic, even if it is a major headline with a large publication.  You still need to consider your own passion and experience and how it relates to that headline.  And a great way to use the headline tool for your passion is to target the headlines you read.  For example, if you’re passionate about traveling, you should watch the headlines on travel magazines and related websites.  If travel is your thing, it won’t do you much good to watch the sports headlines.

Putting The Specific And The General Together

Being aware of headlines, both specific to your passion and in general, will ignite your thinking and spark some ideas.  The targeted headlines will give you ideas for writing about your passion.  The general headlines will tell you what the public is interested in.  When you put the two together you’ve got the formula for a successful booklet – one that both you and the public can be passionate about!

The One Thing That Will Drive You Forward, Compel You To Promote Your Booklet, And Bring You Riches

How many times have you come up with an idea for a booklet, based on some experience you had, and then not followed through?  Or maybe you did follow through, but you found yourself less enthused about your idea after your booklet was created?  Excitement and enthusiasm are emotions of the moment.  They are not enough to carry you through from the conception of your idea to making money with your booklet.

When Excitement Is Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

It’s easy to get excited about a a booklet idea when you’ve just had some kind of major life experience.  Suddenly, you know something you didn’t know before, or you see the world in a whole new light.  You realize that there are others who have shared the same kind of experience, and you want to help them, or enlighten them, or teach them with your new found information.  But don’t start writing that booklet just yet.

In this kind of situation, the best thing you can do is wait.  Why?  Because you need to make certain that this new found information is really a passion of yours and not something that you’re excited about today, but won’t really care about tomorrow.  Creating a booklet is easy, but once you do you must remain committed to it’s publication – getting it into the hands of those who need it.  This is not a difficult thing to do when you’re fired up about your subject.  But, if it is tiresome and you have no passion for it, you will have wasted time and money creating your booklet in the first place.

When It’s All About The Money

Some booklet authors don’t give much thought at all to their subject.  They are more interested in the money they can make with their booklet.  They create a booklet on a topic that they believe will appeal to the masses and slap their by-line on the cover.  Not until they begin to market their booklet do they realize the mistake they have made.

Suddenly, they are expected to be an expert in a subject they care little or nothing about, and they find it difficult to promote something they are not passionate for.  Their name is now forever attached to the subject they have chosen, and even if they change direction and create a new booklet on a completely different topic, if the first booklet has sold to even a handful of people the author will be branded for all eternity within that market.  They will be branded as an author who sold out and didn’t care about their audience within that niche.  And, they will have wasted their time and money, just as the author who rushed to create a booklet they were excited about in the moment, but lacked passion for in the long haul.  Both types of authors lose.

Getting It Right Means Getting Rich

In order to make money with your booklet you must first be passionate about your subject.  That means that you have to immerse yourself in your subject for a while before you write your manuscript.  If you have several years experience with your subject already and you wish to create your booklet, you should proceed.  You already have the passion you need.  But, if the idea just came to you this morning, you need to give it some time to develop, and give yourself some time to see how you really feel about the idea.  You need to eat, sleep and breathe your idea for at least a month or two, and perhaps longer, to be certain you won’t get bored or tired with it.

Once your booklet is created you’ll have to promote it.  The rich authors are the ones who promote their publications passionately.  They’ve got a message burning inside of them and they have to get it out to the world.  True passion never dies.  It gets more intense with time.  And it is this passion that will drive you forward, compel you to promote your booklet, and bring you riches!

To your riches,

Kim

Coming Up With New Ideas For Booklets – How To Feed A Hungry Market

Once you have a booklet on the market and it’s selling, you’ll find you have a market that is hungry for more.   This is good, but you must satisfy their hunger by continually giving them new booklets and/or other products.  If you don’t, your market will either lose interest or buy someone else’s products.

You might be thinking this is easier said than done.  After all, it was all you could do to come up with a topic for your first booklet.  And now, you have to do it again.  But, it’s not as difficult as you might think.  Here are some ideas for you to consider when it’s time for you to come up with more to offer your market.

Keep A File For Your Ideas

You should keep a file just for your ideas.  You can write your ideas on paper as they come to you, and then put the paper in the file.  You should also add any articles that interest you from magazines, newspapers, newsletters and online sources.  You’ll probably never use all the ideas you come up with, but when you want to write a new booklet and you’re drawing a blank you’ll have a rich resource to turn to for ideas.

Look At Your Life Experience

Do you have a new interest that would be of interest to your market?  Have you learned something new about your subject area?  Did something recently happen to give you a new perspective on something?  Your life experience can be a valuable resource for ideas.

Other People’s Life Experience

You can also use other people’s life experience to spark ideas for new booklets.  Pay attention to the conversations you have with people as well as what you read online.  Every once in a while you’re bound to find a good nugget you can use and create a booklet around.

Your Passions

What are you most passionate about?  What do you enjoy doing so much that you would do it for free?  Your passions can provide you with ideas for entire series of booklets.  No writer has ever had a difficult time writing about something they loved or enjoyed.

Look At What You’ve Written In The Past

The writing you’ve done in the past can provide you with ideas for new booklets to write.  You can even re-use some of your old content.  You can spin new booklets from old ones, or continue writing about a subject you’ve written about before, adding more information in the new booklet.

Ideas are everywhere.  If you are continually seeking ideas, keeping your mind open to possibilities around you, you’ll find you never run out of them.  You’ll have more ideas for new booklets than you could ever use.

To your riches!

There’s Profit In Your Passion

Are you really passionate about something?  Maybe you are passionate about a skill or talent you possess, such as wood working or painting.  Maybe your passion is a hobby you enjoy, such as model trains or crocheting.  Maybe it’s cooking you love, or maybe reading.  Or maybe it’s a particular time period in history and you really enjoy studying it.  Maybe you’re passionate about your job as a teacher.

When you have a passion for something, you will dig into it as much as you possibly can.   You will read about it, study it, do it, and you will want to be with others who enjoy your passion as much as you do.  To illustrate this, let’s use the recreational pass-time of golf.

Golf Is Everything To The Passionate Golfer

If you have ever known anyone who was passionate about the game of golf, you know they will read everything they can find about golf, watch videos about golf, watch golf on tv, buy the latest new putter on the market to improve their swing (even though it may cost hundreds of dollars), take golf vacations, hang out with other golfers, and spare no amount of money or time to play and improve their game.  They are serious about golf.  They are golfers and that’s that.  It’s who they are, it’s what they think about, and it’s what they’re into.

If you happen to be a passionate golfer, there is profit in writing about it.  Why?  Because you’re knowledgeable about the game, there are others who know less than you do who will want your information, and because serious golfers will leave no book or booklet unread about golf if they think it will help their game.

You Can Profit From Your Passion

You can profit from your passion just like the passionate golfer in the illustration above.  Whatever you’re passionate about, chances are others are passionate about it too.   The others who share your passion are your market.  They will want to read the latest information available, or they’ll want more information if they’re new to the subject.

Writing about your passion not only puts profit in your pocket, it’s also fun and helps you stay connected to whatever you’re passionate about.  So, think about your passion and start writing!

To your riches,

Kim

How To Easily Come Up With A Great Idea For A Booklet

Have you been trying to come up with a great idea for a booklet but you just can’t seem to think of one?  If you have, you’re searching too hard and looking in all the wrong places.  The place to start is with yourself and what you already know, and the process of coming up with something great is much easier than you think.

How Great Ideas Happen

Every day you get ideas, but most don’t occur to you because you sat down and thought them up.  Most ideas come to you at random when you are free to let your mind wander.  This usually happens when you’re doing some menial task, such as washing dishes, taking a shower, shaving, folding laundry, etc.  These are the times when our minds tend to wander, and that’s when the ideas happen.

In order to capture those great ideas, you need to be aware of them when they occur.  If you’re trying to come up with a great new topic for a booklet, just knowing that you need a new topic is enough.  Then, pay attention to your thoughts when your mind is wandering.  When you do, you will become aware of great ideas as they come to your mind, and it will happen with no effort on your part.  They will just seem to pop right into your head!

Where Great Ideas Come From

So, how do these great ideas get into your mind in the first place?  They are a collection of your experiences and what you think about them.  Every day you are exposed to new things – new situations, new people, new places, new ideas, etc.  And every day you form thoughts about these things.  Most of these thoughts are not formed consciously or in a way that you are aware of them.

Your mind stores all these thoughts from your experiences, and when you let your mind wander, some of these thoughts come back to you automatically without you trying to think them up.  These thoughts may come back to you in their original form, or they may have changed as they were filtered through your own belief system, or altered by new experiences you have had since the thought first occurred.    Many of these thoughts will come to you as ideas during the course of your mind wandering.

How To Have Great Ideas When You Need Them

Once you are aware of the thoughts and ideas coming to you when your mind wanders, you need to be on the lookout for ideas that would make a great booklet.  These ideas are there, along with many other ideas, and they’ll come to you when you least expect them.  In order to capitalize on these ideas, you must write them down as soon as they occur to you.  Otherwise, they’ll be forgotten in a sea of other thoughts and ideas.

Think about this.  How many times have you come up with an idea, seemingly out of the blue, and meant to remember it and use it, only to forget it soon after it came to your mind?  It happens to all of us all the time.  In order to prevent the idea from fading away you must write it down.

The best thing to do is to set aside a special notebook just for your ideas.  Each time an idea for a great booklet topic occurs to you, write it in the notebook.  Soon you’ll have many pages of great ideas for booklets, and when you want to create a new booklet you will have a wonderful resource with many great ideas to choose from.  You can simply open the notebook and go down you list, page by page, and decide which idea you’ll write about.

Other Places To Look For Ideas

As a final thought, ideas that come to your mind are not the only ideas available to you.  If you are on the alert for booklet topic ideas, you’ll find them through out your day.  They can be sparked by any number of things, including conversations, advertisements, books you read or hear about, and blogs and other online content.

Ideas are everywhere.  They are inside you and they are around you.  Be on the alert for them, and then when you get a great one write it down.  If you do, you’ll find that you never run out of great ideas for booklets!

To your riches!

How To Come Up With Great Ideas To Make You Rich

Did you know that just one, single idea can make you rich? Everything you see around you began as an idea – from your desktop computer (there was a day when a computer took up an entire room!), to your automatic coffee maker.  Even the food you eat is the brain child of someone – McDonnalds, Wendy’s, Quaker Oats.  It all began as an idea.

Have you ever wondered what sparks great ideas?  Where do they come from?  Do they happen randomly?  Not really.  Great ideas are most often sparked by something you have heard, read or experienced.  This is why you should control what you listen to, what you read, and as much as you can, the experiences you have.  Great ideas rarely come from garbage.  And as a booklet author, the more great ideas you have the more riches you’ll have.

This blog is filled with information that can spark great ideas for you, and it only takes one great idea to make you rich.  The idea of writing a booklet is one that can make you rich, and that idea is handed to you here.  There are lots of other ideas handed to you here , but there are also ideas that will occur to you as you read.  Keep this in mind when reading the posts on this blog.  Be on the lookout for great ideas and you’ll soon have tons of them!

To your riches!

What To Do When There Is Too Much Written On Your Topic Already

Do you have a desire to write a booklet but you don’t feel it will sell because there is so much written about your topic already?  If this has been the excuse that has kept you from realizing your authorship dreams, hold on to your hat because it will get blown off right along with this excuse by the end of this post!

I have two little words for you.  Diet industry.  Look at how much has been written about dieting, and yet publishers are still cranking out new books on the subject every year.  Why?  Because it’s still profitable, as long as each book deals with a different area of the industry or has a new slant.  For example, there are diet books for children, diet books for the elderly, diet books for diabetics, and even diet books that only contain desserts for people who love sweets!  There are hundreds if not thousands of diet books available on the market today.  A new one is always welcome, as long it has a niche to fit into.

If you think your topic has been written about too much already, niche it down.  Don’t write about great hiking spots in the U.S.  Write about great hiking spots in Colorado.  Or niche it down even further to easy hikes in Colorado.  If you need a little larger niche, you could go with easy hikes in the northwest.

Just like a diet book can never be one size fits all, so it is with your booklet.  No single information can please everyone or include the information everyone needs.  But, you can write a very specific booklet for a very specific niche.  And even if there are a couple of other books or booklets on the same subject in the same niche, they won’t be written with your experience from your point of view.  Your information will be different.  It will give the reader something that the other books or booklets don’t.  It will be a fresh perspective.

Take a look at the other information available on your topic and for your niche.  You’ll probably come up with plenty of information that was left out of the other products, which you can include in yours.

In my next post, I’ll deal with one of the biggest excuses of them all!

To your riches!

Kim
