As a booklet author you have much to be thankful for. Here is a list to get you thinking….

1) Your ability to write. Most people don’t write well, and the majority actually hate to write. You’ve got talent! Be thankful!

2) Your discovery of this blog. Ok, not to sound conceited, but seriously, think of all the time you’ll save getting your work to market now that you know about booklets! Getting it to market faster means making money faster!

3) The time you’ll save because you chose to create a booklet. Books take much longer to write. Thank goodness you’re not going to do that now!

4) All the ways you can make money from your booklet. Hey, just one booklet can create several different streams of income online and off! There’s single sales, quantity sales, e-sales, specialty sales, and the list goes on!

5) Helping others. That’s what you do when you create a booklet.

6) The money you’ll save on production. Books are expensive to produce. Booklets cost far less and often you won’t have to pay a dime to produce them. Your buyers may just foot the bill themselves!

7) Being known as an expert about a topic you love or enjoy. Most people are never credited for their expertise. As a booklet author, you’ll have credibility within your industry or from those associated with your topic.

Being your own boss. No more 9 – 5 for you. No more daily grind. Your life is your own and you can live it as you please!

9) Making a living doing what you love. Most people go to jobs they hate every day. You get to do work that you enjoy. In fact, it doesn’t even seem like work at all. Lucky you!

10) Living your life the way you want to. Your destiny is in your hands. What will you do?

Is there something you would like to add to the list? Leave a comment!

To your riches!

No matter what subject you choose to write a booklet about, chances are there is already something written about it somewhere else. It may be a book, article, website, blog or even another booklet. Or, there may be information available in a recorded format such as a cd. And, if your subject is a popular one, such as weight loss, information abounds in many forms. So, how can your booklet stand out from the crowd?

Your Experience And Information Is Unique

Your booklet is not like anything else ever written. It is completely unique, based upon your own experiences and your opinions about those experiences. What you feel is important about your subject will be quite different from what another author may feel is important. Therefore, your booklet will include information that another author may choose to exclude.

Few Authors Write Booklets

Your booklet is unique not only because you created it, but also because it is a booklet. Most authors create books or articles. Few write booklets.

In order for readers to find an article, they must first search for it online, or read the headlines on the magazines at the newstand. An article doesn’t stand alone. It’s part of a larger whole, and therefore not necessarily easy to find.

Books, on the other hand, do stand alone and may be easier to find, but they are rarely read cover to cover. 98% of Americans never get past the first chapter of a book. Life is just too busy.

Your booklet is the perfect solution. It stands out because it’s easy to find, unlike an article, and it’s a quick and easy read, unlike a book.

Match Your Booklet To Your Niche

When you consider your unique experience and the fact that you are creating a booklet, those two facts alone will make your booklet stand out from all the other information in the marketplace that is available on your subject. But, there is one more thing to consider and it has to do with your marketing. That is – who is your intended audience? Who is your particular niche?

You want your booklet to stand out for your particular niche. If they know it’s for them, they’ll buy it. The title should grab their attention and the content should be just what they need. If it isn’t, they’ll pass it by for something they feel is better suited to their needs or desires.

When you match your booklet to your audience it will automatically stand out as something they need to buy from you.

Making your booklet stand out is easy. It is a booklet created by you, which makes it unique. Now all you need to do is make sure that you match it to your particular audience, and you can’t help but have a best seller on your hands!

To your riches!

You’ve got an idea for a booklet, but are you really passionate enough about your topic to make it fly? Most ideas die before they ever see the light of day. This is because what seems like a great idea at the time is quickly extinguished when we realize that it’s going to take some work. You must be passionate about your topic or you’ll lose steam before you even complete your manuscript (if you ever start it!).

Here are ten ways to know that your idea is truly a passion and not just a flight of fancy.

1) Is it something you’re already involved in by choice? If you choose to be involved in something, you probably have a certain amount of passion for it – such as playing tennis or star gazing or dancing.

2) Is it something you’re involved in, but had no choice? Often being involved in something and not being given a choice as to whether or not you wanted to be involved can lead to a passion for helping others cope with the same situation. Allergies are a good example of this. Nobody chooses to have an allergy, and everyone who has them would love to be free of them. Having an allergy may, therefore, create a passion inside you to find better ways to cope with it and help others in the process.

3) Does it consume your thoughts night and day? When you’re truly passionate about something you can’t stop thinking about it.

4) Would you rather be involved with it than doing anything else? Our passions consume our time.

5) Is it high on the list of priorities in your life? If it is, you’ll find yourself excluding other things to to stay involved with this one.

6) Is it all you really want to talk about? You may find that you have to curtail your enthusiasm a bit around your friends and family because they get tired of hearing about it!

7) Are you willing to buy just about anything related to it? Think golf. Golfers will spare no amount of expense to improve their game.

Are you willing to do whatever it takes to improve in it, or learn more about it. This might mean taking classes, reading, watching DVD’s, subscribing to magazines, etc.

9) Do you find that you can never absorb enough information about your topic? You never get tired of reading or hearing about it.

10) Does the time seem to fly by when you’re engaged in or with your topic? There never seems to be enough time to do the things we really enjoy. If it’s a passion, you’ll find there’s never enough time in a day.

Creating a booklet you’re passionate about is important because you’ll be known for what you write about. Make sure it’s something you truly love and want to be known for!

To your riches!

If you’ve ever started working out, you know that you don’t start at the top. You start slowly and build your endurance and stamina over a period of weeks. You might be able to do five push-ups today, six tomorrow, and ten next week. Nobody starts out with 100 push-ups on the first try.

Your booklet business is the same way. You start with one small booklet and build from there.

The Beginning

For most booklet authors, their vision begins with a single idea for a booklet – an idea that they are so passionate about it keeps them awake at night. This is an excellent starting point. There is no need to look beyond that first project at this point. What matters most at the start of the game is your enthusiasm to get in and play and do your best to WIN.

The Middle

Once your first booklet is finished and is selling, you may find yourself thinking of more booklets and other products you can create. This is the next step in expanding your business. You have been successful with your first booklet, and now you’re ready to progress to selling more.

You might expand your business by creating a second booklet that will cross-sell with the first one. Now you have two products that compliment each other. Or, you might offer your first booklet in another format, such as on a cd. You might even create a complimentary product to go with your booklet, such as a short workbook.

Expanding your business doesn’t mean you have to get huge overnight. It’s simply adding one more product at a time, whenever you are ready.

Continuing On

As your booklet business grows, so will your vision. You’ll see new possibilities of what your business can be. Every time you reach a goal, you’ll have new ones waiting to be achieved.

You may decide to discontinue some of your older products that seem to have run their course, or you might instill them with some fresh material to update them. And you will continue to create new products.

You may go beyond the material products in your business and venture into public speaking about your particular area of expertise – the subject of your booklets.

There is no end to your booklet business once you’ve got that first booklet completed and selling, unless you decide to quit. Even then, it may be possible for you to quit in the lap of luxury and sell your business or pass it down to a younger family member who would like to take the reins.

There are so many possibilities waiting for you once you create that first booklet. Why not get started today?

To your riches!

Does it seem impossible to you that anyone would want to buy thousands of copies of your booklet and pay you a large sum of money for them? For many booklet authors this is the case, until they discover that they are not their customer.

Your Perspective Is Small

As individuals, we tend to have a narrow view of things. We see things from our own, small perspective. And, we tend to think everyone else is just like we are, whether they are another individual or a large corporation.

We think this way without giving it any effort at all. It’s just the way we’re wired. We’ve had a certain set of life experiences which has led us to conclude certain things about others. It’s natural for us to think this way.

The problem is that others are not like us. Even twins have their differences. You must train yourself to focus outside the narrow box you live in or you’ll never see the truth and you’ll never believe that your booklet or your business will do very well.

How Big Do You Want Your Paycheck To Be?

Your customer is a living, breathing human being who is NOT like you. If your customer is a quantity buyer, he has far more money to make a purchase than you can imagine. He may get a large personal paycheck, or a small one, but when he’s using the company’s money it doesn’t matter how big or small his own paycheck is. All that matters is how big your paycheck will be from the deal you create with him.

Your customer’s preferences will be different from yours, but that’s ok. You can accommodate him and give him what he wants. If he wants the cover to be orange instead of blue, no problem. If he wants photos inside, great! It may not be what you would have chosen, but remember – you are not your customer.

Be Flexible In Your Thinking

You need to be flexible in your thinking when it comes to making assumptions about your customer, or your market. Markets change constantly – affected by the economy, trends, and other influences that are outside of your control.

Your own economy might be tight, and the overall economy might affect your customer, but if he’s paying with someone else’s money he’ll still have the funds to give you a big, fat payday. He’s got more money to play with than you do.

You can’t judge your customers by your own lifestyle, income or preferences. Widen your perspective. Look outside the box you’ve been living in and you’ll find that there is a whole other world out there that you never knew existed. And you’ll find that yes, there really are quantity buyers out there who will purchase thousands of copies of your booklet and pay you a large sum of money for them!

To your riches!

When you write your booklet manuscript, you should think of it as a roadmap for your audience to follow. Your information should NEVER be vague or leave your readers guessing as to what you’re really trying to say. The information should be easy to understand yet fun to read.

Relevant Information Only Please

Since a booklet is a small publication, you don’t have room for information that isn’t absolutely necessary. You want to give the facts, or a taste of the whole, like giving the peanut butter and jelly without the bread.

Every word you write in your manuscript should be relevant to your subject and what you’re trying to tell the reader to do. Words or phrases that are not relevant, or that confuse, or that add additional information that really isn’t necessary in order for the reader to get the idea, should be left out.

Your booklet should be jam-packed with useful information that is completely relevant to your subject. Anything less will bore your audience and leave them disappointed.

Make Your Writing Colorful

Being relevant doesn’t mean you have to be boring. You want your information to be presented in way that is engaging. This not only gets your audience to read your booklet, it also gets them excited about it – hopefully to the extent that they will want to tell others about this great piece of information they have found.

So, how can you engage your readers? By dressing up your writing a little and using some colorful words that help to create an image in the reader’s mind. You want to avoid over using common words, and replace them with more colorful ones that your readers will still understand.

For example, instead of using the word excited, you might use “on fire,” or “fired up.” You see this kind of thing all the time in advertising. Instead of saying “raise” your income, you’ll see “skyrocket” your income. It means the same thing, but the word ’skyrocket’ gives the phrase some extra oomph.

Don’t over do the more colorful words. Think of them like seasoning. Too much salt will spoil it. You want just the right amount.

Give Complete Information

Your manuscript should give a complete picture. It won’t do your readers any good if your manuscript has some relevant facts, but not enough to give the reader a clear sense of what to do. And no amount of colorful words will fix this problem either.

Your manuscript is really like a set of directions. Imagine you were driving to a place in a city you had never been to before. If your road map only took you half way there, you would have a problem. Just as you would need a complete set of directions to find that place in the city, so your readers need complete information (although condensed to fit into a booklet) to be able to accomplish what your booklet promises they can.

Your booklet will be a fun read when the writing is relevant, colorful and complete. Make sure it is and your audience will ask you for more!

To your riches!

As an author and business owner, I do a lot of reading online to keep up with current trends. Recently, I came across an article that had the audacity to state that good photos or artwork can make up for bad writing. This blatant ignorance is an affront to everything I stand for as an author, and if you were to follow such careless advice you would quickly find that your booklet would not sell.

Why Good Writing Is Crucial To Your Riches

Good writing is important whether you’re creating an advertisement, an article, a book or a booklet. When your customers purchase from you, they are making an investment. They are willing to make that investment because they believe that your information is valuable to them. If, after they invest in your booklet, they discover that isn’t the case, they won’t buy from you again. Therefore, good writing is crucial to your sales and your riches.

What Makes Good Writing?

What makes your writing good? Your writing is good when it appeals to your audience and gives them the information they desire. It should be professional, but it should also speak directly to your market in their language.

Think about why you buy the publications you do – especially non-fiction publications. If you needed to know how to fix a flat tire, and you bought a booklet you believed would tell you how to do that, but after reading it you still had no clue how to fix a flat tire, you would feel that you wasted your money on that booklet and you would try to find the information somewhere else. Your audience is the same way.

Artwork And Photos Are Just The Icing On The Cake

No amount of artwork or photos will ever replace bad writing, no matter how beautiful the artwork or photos are. Websites are proof of this. Have you ever been to a really beautiful website that didn’t tell you anything or give you and information? Most of us have. And what do we do when we get there? We leave.

Photos and artwork are simply the icing on the cake. Your writing is the substance. It’s why people will buy from you. Make it good and keep them coming back for more!

To your riches!

Kim

1) People will buy from you again and again. When they know you’re the expert and your information is good, your audience will want to purchase more from you.

2) Your audience will recommend your booklet to other people they know. People never hesitate to recommend a product from someone they feel is an expert.

3) You will get invitations to speak on your topic. Speaking is a great way to get the word out about your booklet(s) and other products, and it reinforces your expert status.

4) You will have fans who will stick with you for many years, or even for life. Look at some of the television gurus who have come and gone over the years. Many are no longer visible in the public eye, but they still have a following of devotees who continue to buy from them.

5) Your expert status helps establish your personal brand, which reinforces your expert status and places you above your competitors in the mind of your audience.

6) You will be an expert in the eyes of other experts. This is a true advantage when you want to do some type of co-venture with another expert whose expertise doesn’t directly compete with your own.

7) Your expert status can get you into places you could never get into without it, usually places that are related to your topic because you are known within that industry.

Television and radio interviews are offered to experts only. That means you!

9) Knowing you’re an expert will give you more confidence. When you know your stuff and you know you’re good, it will show in your work, your attitude, and ultimately, your sales!

10) Your competitors can no longer compete with you on the same level. They will have to rethink their strategy and revise their game plan. Who can compete with Donald Trump or Oprah? Who can compete with Starbucks? Sure, there are other real estate developers, talk show hosts and coffee bars, but they just aren’t the same. When your audience wants the best, they’ll come to you!

11) Being known as an expert can lead to opportunities you otherwise never would have had. This might be promotional opportunities for your business or products, or it might be personal opportunities, or both.

12) Experts often become celebrities within their market and in the eyes of their audience. Celebrity status gives you a whole other set of perks, in addition to the ones you already have. One of the main perks of being a celebrity is having access to other celebrities. This helps your promotions!

13) Experts have much larger bank accounts than non-experts do. Enough said!

To your riches!

Have you ever wondered just what really makes a booklet author successful? The authors who are at the top have developed some habits that have helped them to cultivate their prosperity. Follow their lead and incorporate their habits into your own booklet adventure and you too will be successful!

Here are the top ten habits of highly successful booklet authors:

1) Be a doer, not a talker or a wisher. The doing creates success.

2) Face your fear. Fear can stop you cold only if you let it. If something creates anxiety or fear for you, do it anyway. Often you’ll find that once you have accomplished the thing you were afraid to do, you’ll feel empowered and the fear will be gone.

3) Do at least one thing every day to further your business. Send a letter, make a call, mail a sample. Just doing one thing every day means by the end of the month, if you work five days a week, you will have done 20 things that month to get your business ahead, get your name out there, and make money!

4) Have set work hours. Sure, you can take a long lunch if you really need to, but if you don’t know when you are going to work you’ll find the work doesn’t get done. Set your work hours and stick to them!

5) Keep interruptions at a minimum. This means letting friends and family know the hours you’re working, and the hours you’re available for them. It may also mean turning off your cell phone and unplugging your home phone.

6) Discipline yourself to use your time wisely. If you’re writing on the computer, don’t fall into the internet trap. A moment of surfing or even research can easily turn into an hour or more. If you need to research online, have a set time for doing so and stick to research until the time is up.

7) Make a list of what you need to accomplish each day. Your list is like a map. Without it you won’t know where you’re going and you’ll find that very little actually gets done. Prioritize your list and put the most important things at the top. That way, you’ll always get the important things done even if you don’t accomplish everything on your list.

Take time to plan and create new goals. When you accomplish a goal, you need a new to one to strive for in order to reach new heights of success.

9) Know what you want. If you don’t know what you want, you won’t know how to plan or what goals to strive for. You need to know what you want in your business and your life. What kind of lifestyle do you want to live? How much money do you want to make? How big do you want your business to be? Knowing what you want will define your terms of what success is for you.

10) Give your audience what they want. You can do everything else on this list and still fail if your audience isn’t interested in your booklet. Make sure your booklet fills a need or want with the information it provides.

To your riches!
