The Secret Of Exceptional Success – It’s Not What You Think

October 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Have you ever looked at someone who is successful in business or in life and thought they were simply lucky?  Many people view those who are more successful than they are as having some kind of advantage or luck, but actually the opposite is usually true.  Successful people often have had great obstacles they had to overcome in order to achieve the success they now enjoy.

Life Is An Obstacle Course

Nobody skates through life problem free.  We all have obstacles in our lives that we must overcome.  It may be some kind of disablity, such as dyslexia, or it may be a fear, such as the fear of public speaking.  It may be some kind of unforseen circumstance such as a divorce or job loss.

No matter what your personal obstacle is, you need to gather your strength and determine that you won’t let it beat you. You need to decide that you will rise above it – no matter what it takes.  If you let it stop you, you’ll never achieve your dreams.

Successful people don’t allow circumstances to overwhelm them.  While they may feel overwhelmed or emotional about a situation for a time, they know they can’t let it destroy them.  They know that at some point, and preferably sooner rather than later, they need to move on from it and continue working toward their goals.

Time Is Precious – Go For It!

Another misperception people have about the wildly successful is that they have some kind of education or special expertise that has placed them where they are.  The truth is that often these people learn the ropes as they go.  They have a goal, and they don’t sit around waiting until they know all they need to before they start.  They just begin.

Time is precious for all of us, and if you waste time waiting for the perfect moment to begin striving for your goals you’ll find that moment never arrives.  There will always be just one more thing you’ll need to do before you’re ready.

The Real Secret Of Success

The real secret of exceptional success isn’t found in eduction or knowledge or expertise.  It isn’t found in some magical formula or luck or advantage either.  The real secret to success is found in the willingness to do things other people won’t do.

Most people talk rather than act.  They don’t really want to do anything.  It’s easier to wish and complain than it is to make a change.

The majority of people will never write a booklet, although most would tell you they have a great idea for a book. It’s fair to assume they’ll poo poo the idea of a booklet, but they won’t write a book either.  It will forever remain an unreachable dream for them.

Of the handful of people who do actually write a booklet, most will never get beyond the writing stage.  The manuscript will sit because they don’t want to do what it takes to get to the next phase.

Success in the booklet business is a progression of unending events.  It’s like an adventure.  You can’t stop.  You must continue moving forward.  Do what others won’t do.  Writing that booklet is a great place to begin.

Don’t worry about what you don’t know.  You’ll discover once you get started that you don’t need to know it all.  You just need to know enough to get you through this moment so you can progress to the next one.  And, once you’re in the moment you’ll find that the last moment prepared you for this one.

Do whatever it takes.  You have what you need.  Just begin!

To your riches!

The Secret To Getting What You Want

September 8, 2009 · 2 Comments

I heard a good little story last night and thought I’d share it with you today.  Two men were hired for a job.  The boss told them they would be filling in a hole with dirt.  They were each handed a shovel and then they were taken to the hole they were supposed to fill in.  As the two men looked across the Grand Canyon, the first man shook his head and angrily said, “No way!  There’s no way!  This is crazy!  What is this, some kind of joke?  This is a waste of time.  I’m outta here!”  And he threw his shovel on the ground and walked away.

Now, at this point during the story I thought to myself that I would probably have done the same thing.  How could you possibly fill in the Grand Canyon with a shovel?  Even the biggest bulldozer couldn’t do it!  But wait until you hear what happened next….

The second man gleefully smiled, hardly able to contain his joy and said, “What a wonderful boss I have!  I’ll be employed for life!”

Which man would you rather be?  If you’re like me, you’d rather be the second man.  He was the one who saw the positive in what seemed like an impossible task or situation.

Two Ways To View The Choice Before You

At this moment, you are faced with a choice.  It might be whether to create a booklet, or it might be whether to make that call to talk with the head of XYZ company about a purchase from you, or it might be about whether to take your company in a new direction and grow it larger.

No matter what kind of choice you’re faced with, there are always two ways to look at it.  One is positive, the other is negative.  Whichever one you choose, the outcome of your choice (or the situation) will match.

There’s No Such Thing As Random Chance

Have you ever gone through a time when everything just seemed to fall into place and one good thing after another happened for you?  This isn’t something that happens by random chance.  It occurs because you expect it to.

Many people get up in the morning expecting to go through another day of drudgery, or at least the same ol’ same ol’ of yesterday.  They aren’t looking for anything new or exciting to happen for them, and so it seems that nothing ever does.

But, a few people get up in the morning with great expectations.  It doesn’t matter what the weather looks like outside, or whether the car will start or if they’re short just a few cents for being able to get their latte.  They have already determined that they are going to be happy this day, and that great things will happen for them.  They expect certain results, and they refuse to allow negative experiences to get in the way or spoil their day.

Your own expectations literally determine the results you get from your booklet adventure and ultimately, your life.  If you go into your day with high expectations and you determine that NOTHING is going to get in the way of the results you want, then you’re going to win.

On the other hand, if you go into your day with the attitude that you just can’t make it work, or that you’re nobody so why would Mr. Bigwig want to talk to you, or that you’re just too tired or the process is taking too long, you will lose.

The Secret – It’s So Simple!

Expect good things to come to you and they will.  Expect to get good results and you will.  That’s the secret, and it’s so simple!  What most people don’t realize is your expectations set in motion your actions.  When your expectations are positive, your actions will be positive.  The same applies for negative expectations.

Riches are not made by expecting small things, or worse – negative outcomes.  Can you imagine Donald Trump going into a real estate deal with low expectations?  Or Bill Gates creating a new product that he expects will fail?  It’s not gonna happen.  What if Oprah suddenly woke up one morning and thought to herself, “Oh, not again.  Not another day of this.  I’m getting too old for this.”  Her career would be finished.

These people get up every morning expecting great things to happen.  They get great results because they expect nothing less.  And when you expect nothing less than great results they will happen for you too!

Riches are made much more by your expectations than by what you do.  Now get out your shovel and start filling in that hole!

To your riches,

Kim

Why Your Knowledge And Experience Have A Much Higher Value Than You Think

July 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Have you put off moving forward with your booklet because you’re worried about what other people will think?  Do you feel that you haven’t done enough to be promoted as an expert on your chosen topic?  All booklet authors have these concerns at some point in their booklet journey, most often at the very beginning but sometimes these thoughts can occur long after the booklet has been created and produced.  But, the truth is that YOU and only YOU can write your booklet.  If somebody else could have done it, they would have.

Don’t Underestimate Yourself

You are unique.  You have a unique perspective on the world.  Nobody else sees things quite in the same way that you do.  If you and nine other people each created a booklet on the same topic, you would have ten very different booklets when they were all completed.  Why?  Because each of you would process the same information differently.  You would each decide upon different things to include in your booklet based on your own experience.  What is relevant to one author may seem irrelevant and unimportant to another.

There is a market niche that only you can speak to.  You have common ground with them.  To them, you are the expert.

Don’t Underestimate What You Have Done

Everything you have ever done in your past has brought you to this point.  Your personal experience is unique.  That experience is made up of things you have done and how you have handled various situations in your life.  That experience is what qualifies you to write your booklet.  You may tap into your life experience for your booklet, or you may have educational experience to tap into, but either way your experience is relevant.

Everything you do in your booklet business is like a building block, and every block builds upon the next.  When you do one little thing today and another little thing tomorrow, pretty soon you’ve got alot of little building blocks that make one big building, or in this case, a booklet business.

Consider everything that has brought you to this moment.  This moment is made up of alot of little things – your past experiences, your desires, your passions.  Each of them are relevant to this moment.  The same is true for your booklet.  You have done and experienced many things that have caused you or will cause you to write it.

Go Ahead – Toot Your Own Horn

You have a right to be proud of your achievements, your experience and your credentials.  And the simple fact is if you don’t tell others about them, they’ll never know.  When someone asks you why you wrote a booklet about surviving a divorce or what makes you the expert on nutrition for seniors, tell them!  Share some of your experience or expertise with them.  In fact, you should be sharing that expertise even when they don’t ask for it!

Once you have created your booklet, you’ve done something worth talking about.  Most people will never do anything with the expertise or knowledge they possess.  In fact, they’ll downplay their own knowledge and expertise, writing it off as mostly irrelevant, while praising you for yours!  It’s just human nature.  We all tend to think that someone else is better than we are in one area or another.  And they may be.  But, you’re the one who wrote the booklet, remember?

Write your booklet.  Then, get out there and make your dream a reality.  You can do it.  Don’t underestimate the worth of your unique knowledge or experience.  It has a much higher value than you realize.

To your riches!

Kim

The Most Important Choice You’ll Ever Make

June 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The average American is in debt, overweight, doesn’t get enough sleep and works too hard.   The average American spends their leisure time in mindless activities such as watching TV (up to 7 hours per day!), answering email and text messaging.  The average American is constantly broke and lives paycheck to paycheck.  The average American will die without a legacy.  The average American will never write a book or booklet.  If there is anything you don’t want to be, it’s an average American.

You Don’t Have To Be An American To Be Average

No matter which country you hail from, you can relate to the plight of the average person.  There is nothing special about the average person.  They go through life, living from one day to the next, never trying to better their existence.  All they know, and all they can see is the here and now.   And the here and now has so overwhelmed them that they can’t think beyond it.  It consumes them.  This is true for the vast majority – the average person.

Being Average Is A Choice

Everyday you have a choice to make whether you realize it or not – the choice to be average or the choice to rise above that status quo.  If you are not making the choice, it is being made for you and you will live an average life.  Only by consciously making the choice to strive for something better will you be able to avoid the fate of the average person.

Why Riches Don’t Flow To The Average Person

The average person can never attain true wealth.  Why?  Because true wealth does not flow to the average.  It flows to those who want something more, who are willing to sacrifice their average lifestyle for something better.  The masses of society are not willing to do anything more than they are currently doing.  If they were, we would live in a very different world.  But, the fact is the majority are comfortable living their average lifestyle.  They don’t want to change it.  They may dream about it and wish they could, but they really don’t want to or they would.  Since the average person is not willing to strive for more, they will never have more.  They will have what they’ve always had – an average existence.

Booklets And The Status Quo Don’t Mix

When you step out and create a booklet, you’re rising above the status quo because most people will never write anything.  Most people will say they want to write a booklet or book or article, but they’ll make every excuse they can for not getting it done.  They just can’t find the time to do it because they’re too busy.

If writing a booklet, reaping the riches from it, and having a better lifestyle is something you truly desire to do, you must make the choice to rise above your average lifestyle and do what needs to be done to have something more than you have.  You must be willing to see your project through to the end, and if a problem arises you must be willing to meet it head on rather than making excuses and quitting.  You know the old saying – quitters never win, and winners never quit.  It’s true.  The only difference between the average person and the quitter is that the average person never starts, so they have nothing to quit.

In order to be a successful booklet author you must be willing to give up the status quo.  An author’s success and the status quo never mix.  In fact, the status quo will never mix with excellence in any endeavor.

You have a choice before you now.  The only question is will you choose to remain average or will you step out of the status quo?

To your riches!

Why Do You Want To Write A Booklet?

June 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Have you ever really given much thought as to why you want to write a booklet?  What is your main motivation?  On the surface, you may be thinking that you want to do it so you can quit your job or make more money, but there are plenty of other ways to make money and you don’t need a booklet to quit your job.  To find your true motivation, you need to dig deeper, and you do that by continually asking yourself why, until you reach a final answer.

Why Motivation Matters

When you have a final answer as to to why you want to write a booklet, you will have your motivation and you’ll find that it is much easier to get your booklet written and on the market.  Suddenly, the entire process will have new meaning for you – from the conception of your idea, to the creating of your booklet and on through the production and sales of your finished product.  You’ll be excited every step of the way as your booklet comes into reality and brings your true desire, your “why” into focus.  What seemed difficult will now be easy, and you’ll wake up every morning pumped up and ready to move forward with your booklet and your business.

How To Find Your True Motivation

You can find your true motivation by simply asking yourself why you want to write a booklet.  Your conversation with yourself might go something like this:

Why do I want to write a booklet?

So I can make a lot of money.

Why do I want to make a lot of money?

So I can pay off all my bills and get out of debt.

Why do I want to pay off all my bills and get out of debt?

So I can be free from the stress that I live with everyday.

Why do I want to be free from the stress?

So I can be a better spouse and parent and make the time I spend with my family count.

Why do I want to be a better spouse and parent?

Because I love my family.

Your True Motivation May Be The Best Riches Of All

That last sentence is the true motivation, and as you can see it’s a very strong one.  If this were really your conversation with yourself, now you would have real motivation for getting your booklet finished and on the market, because every morning and all day long, whenever you might think of your booklet and what needs to be done, you would not be thinking about the money.  You won’t see the money in your mind when you think about your booklet.  Instead, you’ll see the smiling, happy faces of your family.  And instead of imagining the things money can buy, such as cars, boats, and houses, you’ll be imagining the riches that money can never afford – happy times spent with your family.  And that will fuel your fire and excite you.  It will spur you on to getting your booklet finished and on the market.

So, why do you want to write a booklet?

To your riches!

Author’s Self Published Title Outsells His Traditional Publishing House Books

April 15, 2009 · 2 Comments

Travel writer, Tim Leffel, decided to write a travel book after the birth of his first child.  The book did so well, he later got a contract with a traditional publishing house to write other travel books.  But, his first title, which he self published, has been outselling his later, traditionally published books.

You don’t need a traditional publisher to make money from your writing.  You also don’t need to write a full length book.  I can see a missed opportunity for booklets (yes, booklets – as in plural!) in the very niche that this gentleman is writing for.

Here is the story.  May you be inspired!

Who Is In Charge Of Your Success Or Failure?

March 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Do you believe you can create a booklet?  Do you believe that people will want to buy it?  If you do, you’re on your way to a rich career as a booklet author.  If deep down you really don’t, it’s time to re-evaluate why you ever thought about getting into the booklet publishing business in the first place.

Why What Others Think Doesn’t Matter

It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.  It only matters what you believe about your writing, your abilities and your business.  Your friends, family or co-workers may trivialize your writing and your ideas.  They may blatantly tell you not to quit your day job.  They might even laugh when you tell them about your plans.  But, it doesn’t matter.  It has no bearing on what you can accomplish.

You Must Believe In Yourself

The only one in charge of whether you achieve your goals or you fail is you.  And at least 95% of accomplishing anything in life, booklets included, is believing that you can.  You must believe in yourself.  This doesn’t mean that you have a puffed up, always positive, sunshiny day attitude.   It means that you are grounded, that you are confident, and that you have a solid sense of being able to accomplish what you want to because you don’t let anything get in your way.  You know that you are capable.  You know that what you don’t know you can learn.  And you are willing to keep going, never giving up, until you reach your goal.   In short, you know what you’re made of.

Give Yourself Permission To Move Forward

Believing in yourself gives you the ability to stand tall when others laugh at your ideas, or when a problem arises.  It gives you the courage to put one foot in front of the other and keep going when you have a bad day.  And, it keeps you from getting too big of a head when things go right and you achieve success, because you know how you got there and you know that you’ll never know everything, and there will always be another problem just round the corner.  When you believe in yourself, you give yourself permission to move forward because you know your strengths.  Knowing your strengths helps you fill in the gaps for your weaknesses – you get help where you need it.

Believe in yourself, in your strengths and abilities, and know that you will win as long as you stay in the game.  Now go forth and write your booklet!

To your riches!

How To Turn Your Dreams Into Reality

February 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Are you too busy with the daily grind of life to think about what you really want?  Maybe once in a while you wish things were different, but you’ve never really gone beyond wishing.  You wish you could be an author, but you’re too busy with other things.

Beyond the wishing lies dreaming – really giving some thought to what you want.  Dreaming is the beginning of a new reality.  Dreaming takes a little more time than wishing.  Wishing is a passing thought which is over in an instant, while dreaming is focusing on that thought and seeing things the way you would like them to be.

In order to get from where you are to where you want to be, you need a plan.  Dreaming is the beginning of that plan.  You can dream about the end results you hope to achieve as an author, such as a certain number of copies sold, a certain amount of money in the bank, and a better lifestyle.  Then, once you have decided what you want, you need to create a plan to get there.  But there is one other thing you must have to make it work in order to turn your dreams into reality.  You must have a deadline.

Without a deadline your dreams will always be dreams.  It’s easy to dream, and you can plan for eternity and still never reach your goals.  At some point the plan needs to go into action.  There needs to be accountability for implementing the plan.  And that is what a deadline does – it makes you accountable for working the plan you have created from your dreams.

Your dreams will become reality when you add a deadline to them.  Of course, some dreams are the stuff of fantasy and will always be dreams, but the ones that you truly desire, the ones that are possible even if they seem a little far fetched, will be achieved with a deadline.

So, take the time to dream and give thought to what you really want.  Then, create the plan to get you there and give it a deadline.  When you do, you’ll find that your dreams really do come true!

To your riches!

How To Be A Have Instead Of A Have Not

January 19, 2009 · 2 Comments

Of all the things an author needs for success, there is one that stands far above the rest.  Without it you can accomplish nothing.  It’s something we all possess, but most of us misuse it or ignore it, or even throw it away.  I’m talking about your most treasured resource and asset, which slips away moment by moment.  I’m talking about time.

Time Waits For No One

How often have you said you wanted to write a booklet (or a book), but you never found the time to start?  You’ve dreamed of living a richer life, yet you’ve done nothing to make it happen because you were too busy with other things.  It’s time to get serious.

Time waits for no one.  It goes on whether you’re watching tv, writing emails, surfing the net, talking on your cell phone, doing laundry or making dinner.   And, at the end of a long, tedious day, you may find yourself saying you just didn’t have time to get to your writing, but you’ll be sure to get to it tomorrow.  There will come a day, however, when you’ve run out of tomorrows, and all you have left is today.

Why You’ll Never Find The Time To Write And What You Can Do About It

Creating any written piece, whether it’s a manuscript, an article or blog post, is something you must make the time to do.  If you try to find the time to fit it in, you never will.  There will always be something else more important needing to be done, and the writing will have to wait.  But is it really fair to yourself to let your dreams of living a better life and doing what you love take a backseat to television?  Or the laundry?  Or dinner?  Of course not.  These things are really just excuses to keep you from accomplishing your goals.  The laundry can wait an hour or two.  Dinner can be eaten while you write.  Television can be skipped altogether.

If you’re having trouble finding the time you need to get your booklet started or finished, look at all the things you do in your day and ask yourself what you can cut out.  Then, replace those things with the things you need to do to reach your goals.  There are some things which will always be important, such as time spent with your children.  But, when you are looking for the time wasters in your day, you will suddenly become aware of several menial and unimportant things you do that can either wait or be removed from your day altogether.

The biggest difference between the haves and the have nots in society is how they use their time.  Make the most of yours.

To your riches!

How To Go From Rags To Riches In 2009 With Booklets

January 2, 2009 · 2 Comments

Welcome to 2009!  I’m so excited about the year that lies ahead!  It’s an opportunity for new writing, new deals and more riches!

Hopefully, the start of this new year finds you in good spirits and as eager as I am about what this year has in store.  This can only work to your advantage as I truly believe that attitude is everything.  No matter what may happen, or what circumstances you are in at the moment, if you have a good attitude, a positive outlook, and you’re willing to make some changes, then your circumstances will change for the better.  Even if everything is just rosy, with a positive attitude things will get even rosier!

Some people go through life thinking just the opposite – that they are born unlucky and that good things come to a few lucky people.  They have an outlook that is dismal.  Everything happens to them and it’s all bad.  Nothing good ever comes their way and if it does it won’t last.  These people never look for the silver lining because they don’t believe there is one for them.  The believe they have no power over their future or what happens to them.  It’s all luck of the draw.  Chance.  So, they stay in their low paying jobs and never advance because they don’t believe they can.  The sad thing is, nothing could be further from the truth.

You and I both have what we have because of our attitude toward life and work and money.  If your outlook is generally positive, you’ll find ways to weather the storms as they come.  If not, you’ll find plenty of people to complain to about the storms, but you’ll be tossed about by the winds because you don’t think you can change things.

All you need in order to start changing your circumstances is one good idea.  That idea will lead you to the next idea, and pretty soon you’ll have a plan.  Then, you can begin working your plan and change will begin to happen.

All of this can be related to life in general, but it is easily related to booklets.  At some point, you got the idea to write.  You knew you wanted to write.  Then, you got an idea for a topic.  But, you still need a way to deliver your information.  Now, you’re here and you’ve learned about booklets as an option.  Booklets are a good idea.  But, will this idea become part of your plan?  And will you act on that plan, write your booklet, and make change occur for you in 2009?  I hope you will!  Then, you’ll be the one looking forward to new deals and more money in the new year!

To your riches,

Kim
